The University of Virginia's Center for Comparative Medicine is seeking a Vivarium Supervisor. Vivarium Supervisors are responsible for directing the activities of the animal care unit. They direct the daily operation of the Vivarium, both supervising animal care staff and working closely with veterinary staff. Vivarium Supervisors coordinate activities of animal husbandry, manage compliance with procedures, protocols, University policies, and federal and state regulations, and provide training in proper lab techniques and perform checks to ensure quality and cleanliness of labs and animal rooms. Vivarium Supervisors report to Assistant Department Supervisors and typically work independently in alignment with research goals. The mission of theCenter for Comparative Medicineis to support biomedical research and teaching that utilizes laboratory animals. The Center does this in a manner which promotes the policies set by theInstitutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC)whose charge is to oversee compliance by personnel at the University of Virginia with federal regulations and guidelines.
