Primary Responsibilities

HDR is currently seeking a CAD/BIM Specialist to join our Madison, WI or our Minneapolis, MN office. The primary duties of the CAD/BIM Specialist are to support the Bridge Section with the production of drawings, layouts, sketches, and graphic representations of engineering designs using computer-aided design software with occasional assistance from supervisors, engineers, and project managers. Secondary duties include quantity take-offs, plan sheet production, field investigations and inspections, and supporting other Transportation sections with engineering tasks.

Required Qualifications



  • Associate or technical school degree in engineering, construction management, computer programming, information technology or related field
  • A minimum of 3 years experience in civil and structural design with BIM programs
  • Strong conceptual, organizational, problem solving, and collaboration skills
  • Self-starter with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A willingness to work on a variety of transportation-related projects across multiple business lines including office work and field inspections
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, under broad direction from a Project Engineer or Project Manager on various planning and design projects
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
  • Proficiency using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and/or MicroStation
  • Interest and enthusiasm to learn other CAD and BIM software
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software

Preferred Qualifications



  • 1 year of experience in Engineering or Construction related industry.
  • Experience in construction inspection or field assignments
  • Experience with 3D modeling and BIM for Infrastructure using Bentley or Autodesk Products is a bonus.

The expected compensation range for this position depends upon skills, experience, education and geographical location. (Stated benefits are for full-time regular positions.
