The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

A Technician B position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Catherine Clelland, at Columbia University Medical Center in the Department of Psychiatry. Our research is designed to discover new treatments for patients with Alzheimer's disease, to help improve the quality of life for these individuals. We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated person for this clinically oriented position. The successful candidate for this position will help to investigate the molecular mechanisms of cognitive deficits in Alzheimer's disease. The position also involves liaising with physicians, study coordinators, nursing staff, and phlebotomist,s and processing blood samples from recruited subjects.The position is available immediately.

Responsibilities

Duties will include, but are not limited to the following:



  • Chart screening for subject recruitment.
  • Scheduling subjects and interview rooms.
  • Performing subject screening, subject recruitment interviews, blood draws, and assessments.
  • Performing informed consent interviews and interviews to assess symptoms and phlebotomy.
  • Maintaining and updating subject files and computer records, and patient chart review.
  • Processing blood samples from recruited subjects.
  • Liaising with physicians, study coordinators, nursing staff, and phlebotomists.
  • Keeping records of results of recruitment, updating research records, experiments and data analysis.
  • Performing laboratory molecular experiments (blood centrifugation, DNA and RNA extraction from human tissues, RT-PCR and DNA sequencing).
  • Performing other related duties necessary to the functioning of the laboratory, research project or work unit.


Minimum Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, physics, or related science or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Knowledge of chemistry, biology or physics and various related laboratory procedures and techniques.
  • Ability to perform work in a neat and orderly manner in accordance with safety regulations.
  • Knowledge of experimental materials and standardization.
  • Ability to communicate with patients, students and faculty.
  • Ability to organize experiments in standard form and record data in a scientific notebook.
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new techniques.
  • Familiarity with computer programs, include Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.


Other Requirements



  • Must successfully complete all online systems training requirements.
