Job Summary

The Per Diem Physical Therapist reports to the Clinical Supervisor, Physical Therapy and provides both direct and indirect patient care services. The Per Diem P.T. works primarily with pediatric patients ( children and adolescents) from diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds and with specific pediatric competencies may also work with infants. The Per Diem PT may also work with adult and geriatric patients. Under general direction and upon receipt of written referrals, the Per Diem P.T. plans and administers a full range of physical therapy services for patients with a variety of physical and cognitive impairments and disabilities. Services include patient evaluations using physical therapy tests and measurements, establishment of therapeutic intervention goals and development of therapeutic intervention programs, and implementation of therapeutic intervention plans utilizing physical therapy modalities and procedures. The Per Diem Physical Therapist maintains all applicable patient records related to the delivery of patient care services. While performing job duties, the Per Diem P.T. may also supervise support personnel including Physical Therapist Assistants and Rehabilitation Aides

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Required Qualifications


  • Minimum of one year patient care experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to recognize signs of distress.
  • Possession of or proven eligibility for CPR certification.
  • Basic computer skills in word processing and on line communication.
  • Possession of good interpersonal, time management, problem solving and self-initiation skills.
  • This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Prior physical therapy experience in an academic medical center environment.
  • Prior experience working with an interdisciplinary health provider team.
  • Possession of a degree or certificate in Physical Therapy from an accredited professional educational program.

License/Certification


  • Possession of or proven eligibility for licensure as a Physical Therapist by the Physical Therapy Board of California.
