Job SummaryProvides operational, supervisory, and programmatic leadership within the Health Education & Wellness Unit at McKinley Health Center. Reporting to the Director of Health Education, supervises assigned professional staff, graduate assistants, and student workers; supports the operational infrastructure of the unit; and contributes meaningfully to the design, implementation, and evaluation of evidence-based, equity-centered health education programming.

Reporting to the Director of Health Education, supervises assigned professional staff, graduate assistants, and student workers; supports the operational infrastructure of the unit; and contributes meaningfully to the design, implementation, and evaluation of evidence-based, equity-centered health education programming.

* SUPERVISION & ADMINISTRATIVE LEADERSHIP 40%
Provide direct supervision, onboarding, and ongoing professional development support to assigned staff, graduate assistants, and student workers, fostering a team culture grounded in accountability, inclusion, and continuous growth.
Coordinate day-to-day unit operations, including scheduling, workload distribution, and staff coverage, to ensure consistent and high-quality service delivery across all program areas.
Facilitate regular team meetings, individual supervision meetings, and performance conversations.
Support the Director in budget monitoring, resource tracking, and stewardship of programming and personnel expenditures.
Manage logistical and operational aspects of unit programming, including space reservations, supply and materials management, vendor coordination, and technology support.
Maintain accurate program records, staff documentation, and outcome data.
Assist the Director in preparing unit reports, data summaries, and materials for McKinley leadership and Student Affairs units.
Ensure unit operations align with University HR policies, Student Affairs division procedures, AAAHC accreditation standards, and applicable regulations including HIPAA and ADA.
Represent the unit on internal committees, campus working groups, and Student Affairs coordinating bodies as assigned.
Support staff recruitment, onboarding, and hiring processes in collaboration with the Director and University Human Resources.

HEALTH EDUCATION PROGRAMMING & OUTREACH 40%
Collaborate with the health education team to design, implement, and evaluate health education programs that address the full spectrum of student health and wellness needs.
Apply public health frameworks to develop programs that address structural and individual-level barriers to health, with intentional focus on the University of Illinois diverse student populations including students at cultural houses, international students and students residing in graduate/family housing units. students who face barriers to accessing services.
Contribute to systematic student health needs assessments using quantitative and qualitative methods, including national and campus-specific data tools, to inform programming priorities.
Coordinate unit-wide program calendars to align offerings with student health needs, academic calendars, and campus priorities.
Support the integration of digital health promotion strategies.
Recruit, train, and mentor students from diverse backgrounds for peer health education.
Develop and regularly refresh health education materials that reflect the lived experiences of all student populations.
Provide individual health consultations and warm referrals for students, centering student-identified needs; maintain current knowledge of campus, local, and national health and wellness resources.
Cultivate and sustain active partnerships with campus partners.
Represent McKinley Health Center at campus events, orientation programs, and regional or national professional conferences as appropriate.
Support health emergency preparedness and response communications in coordination with the Director and campus public health partners.

CONSULTATION, PROFESSIONAL ENGAGEMENT & UNIT CITIZENSHIP 20%
Serve as a knowledgeable resource for staff, campus partners, and student leaders on health education best practices, culturally responsive programming, and student health trends.
Assist in facilitating in-service learning for unit staff.
Advocate for equitable access to health education services across McKinley programs; elevate student voices in program planning, review, and improvement processes.
Maintain and actively pursue professional development aligned with CHES/MCHES competencies, ACHA guidelines, and higher education practice.
Contribute to the scholarly and professional profile of the unit by engaging with professional associations, attending conferences, and sharing promising practices.
Uphold all University, McKinley Health Center, and Student Affairs policies, procedures, and ethical standards.
Foster a workplace environment characterized by psychological safety, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to continuous improvement.
Assume additional responsibilities as assigned in support of the unit's mission and McKinley's strategic priorities.

Specialty Factors

Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Health Education, Community Health, Health Promotion, or a closely related field. A total of three (3) years (36 months) in education, training and/or work experience in health education, health promotion, or a related field. Demonstrated experience supervising, mentoring, and/or coordinating the work of professional staff.

Preferred Qualifications

Masters degree in Public Health, Social Work, Nutrition, Nursing or related area.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Ability to plan, coordinate, and evaluate health education programs or initiatives.
• Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively as part of a collaborative team.
• Commitment to equity, access, and student-centered health promotion.

Appointment Information

McKinley Health Center aims to provide high-quality ambulatory healthcare and health education to students and medical expertise to University leadership. The Center is also accredited through the Accreditation Associate for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC). This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5002 - Program Coordinator position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 11/9/2026. The budgeted salary range for the position is
$75,000 to $82,000. The work schedule for this position is 8am-5pm M-F.
