About the Role
The Senior Carrier Sales Representative is responsible for building and managing relationships with freight carriers while providing exceptional customer service to both internal and external stakeholders. This role combines sales acumen, negotiation expertise, and a customer-centric approach to ensure smooth and efficient shipment execution. This position Works closely with customers, shippers, sales, and highway carriers to identify, plan, and coordinate over-the-road (OTR) shipments on behalf of ML's customers and prospective customers, by utilizing the most efficient and cost-effective means of transport.
What you'll do:
- Assist in training and motivating Carrier Sales Representatives, and other employees needing to familiarize themselves with Matson Logistics' Highway operations and processes.
- Identify and secure freight carriers, fostering relationships with those listed in our TMS or discovered through independent research.
- Cultivate robust partnerships with freight carriers, enhancing capacity and negotiating load arrangements for Matson's customers/shippers.
- Evaluate market conditions, carrier availability, and customer shipping requirements to select the most suitable carriers for meeting specific shipping needs.
- Identify, develop, implement opportunities for improvement amongst the Carrier Sales team.
- Assist Carrier Sales Representatives team with vetting carriers as needed and any work-related issues in the absence of a team member.
- Manage daily load acceptance and accurate input and edit transaction data, in a timely manner into Matson's system via web tender, email, fax, or phone.
- Work with the various operations teams to ensure smooth shipment execution, monitor carrier performance, and maintain shipment and customer communication records.
- Determine which accessorial charges can be billed and effectively communicate all charges to the customer contacts.
- Review and authorize the payment or nonpayment of accessorial charges, invoice discrepancies, and loss claims.
- Work with AR and AP to minimize errors in customer invoicing and vendor payables.
- Complete or assist with additional projects as assigned.
- Resolve problems on distressed loads with minimal supervisory guidance and intervention.

And these qualifications:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
- 3+ years of experience in the Highway Services Brokerage field, in a fast-paced service environment.
- Strong computer proficiency. Must possess a working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs or other comparable computer software programs.
Extra credit if you have:
- Four-year degree from college or university in transportation or business is strongly preferred.
Physical Requiremements:
- Lift or move up to 10 pounds; the employee is required to ask for assistance from co-workers or the supervisor/manager when lifting and or moving any object, regardless of weight, where personal injury may occur.
- Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus
- The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate

The annual salary range is posted for this position in Illinois. The salary offered will depend upon qualifications and other operational considerations.
