The Department of Pediatrics, Division of Blood & Marrow Transplantation & Cellular Therapy, is seeking a Research Project Manager to support a portfolio of research led by Dr. Ashish Gupta. The research portfolio includes projects focused on hemoglobinopathies, sickle cell disease, and adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD) and involves collaboration with investigators and research teams across multiple departments and institutions.

This position will provide project management and research support across multiple concurrent projects, working closely with the PI to move projects from development through completion and dissemination. Responsibilities will include developing and maintaining project plans and timelines, coordinating activities across research teams and collaborating institutions, monitoring deliverables and identifying barriers to progress, organizing stakeholder meetings, contributing to manuscript development, and supporting research data collection and entry.

The successful candidate will be highly organized, able to independently manage multiple priorities and deadlines, and comfortable working with investigators and multidisciplinary research teams. This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain substantive experience in clinical and translational research and scholarly publication.

The position may be fully remote or hybrid, with flexible working hours. Meetings and collaborative activities will generally occur between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Central Time.

The position is initially a 50% appointment, and may have the opportunity to expand to full-time in the future based on funding availability, project scope, and candidate interest.
This opportunity may be particularly well suited to individuals pursuing advanced training in medicine, public health, clinical research, or a related field who meet the required experience qualifications.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Research Project Management - 90%

• Manage multiple research projects across the PI's research portfolio from project development through completion, ensuring timely progress, completion of deliverables, and high-quality outcomes.
• Develop and maintain detailed project plans, timelines, milestones, action items, and other tools necessary to monitor research progress.
• Proactively monitor project activities and deadlines; identify potential barriers, risks, or delays and work with the PI and research team to develop solutions and corrective actions.
• Coordinate research activities across investigators, study personnel, departments, collaborating institutions, and other stakeholders.
• Serve as a central point of coordination for project teams, ensuring responsibilities, decisions, deadlines, and next steps are clearly communicated and followed through.
• Plan, coordinate, and facilitate research team and stakeholder meetings, including development of agendas, documentation of decisions and action items, and follow-up on assigned activities.
• Ensure research activities are conducted in accordance with approved protocols, study procedures, institutional requirements, and applicable human-subject research requirements.
• Maintain organized project documentation and provide regular updates to the PI and project stakeholders regarding project status, milestones, risks, and outstanding deliverables.
• Independently address routine project-management issues and collaborate with the PI and other team members to identify solutions to more complex problems affecting research objectives.
• Support development of manuscripts, abstracts, presentations, reports, and other scholarly products arising from the research portfolio.
• Conduct targeted literature reviews and synthesize relevant published research to support manuscript and project development.
• Work collaboratively with the PI and co-authors to develop manuscript outlines and draft and revise manuscript sections.
• Coordinate manuscript development across co-authors, including tracking contributions, revisions, approvals, and submission deadlines.
• Assist with preparation of tables, figures, references, supplemental materials, and other components required for publication or presentation.
• Coordinate submission and revision activities and maintain documentation of manuscripts and other scholarly products in development.

Research Data and Regulatory Support - 10%

• Complete required Human Subjects Protection and other applicable research training.
• Perform research data entry, collection, tracking, and quality review as needed across assigned projects.
• Assist with abstraction of research data from approved sources in accordance with study protocols and institutional requirements.
• Maintain accurate and complete research records and documentation.
• Ensure adherence to approved research protocols and procedures related to participant privacy, confidentiality, and data integrity.
• Serve as a liaison between clinical and research personnel when coordination is necessary for research data collection or project activities.

All required qualifications must be documented on application materials

Required Qualifications:

• BA/BS degree in a related field plus at least four years of relevant experience, or advanced degree plus at least two years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and relevant work experience to equal at least eight years
• Ability to plan, problem-solve, and set goals while managing multiple tasks on a daily basis
• Proficiency with computer software on PC or Mac (i.e. Microsoft Office, Google Suite)
• Strong written and spoken language skills
• Demonstrable experience with drafting sections of manuscripts

Preferred Qualifications:

• At least two years of experience in human subjects research
• Pursuing an advanced degree in the medical field
• Previous experience coordinating recruitment and data collection in human subjects research
• Prior experience doing medical or clinical trial data entry
• Authorship on research manuscript publications and conference presentations
• Ability to collaborate effectively with people from a variety of communities and backgrounds
• Experience with university regulations, policies, and best practices involved in managing research projects with human subjects
• Skillful with technology, assessments, statistical analysis, and document creation on iPad/Mac/PC (e.g. REDCap, Qualtrics, MEFS, SPSS, R, SAS, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Adobe, email, online calendar, video conferencing tools)

Pay Range: $34.00 - $38.50/hour; depending on education/qualifications/experience
