Overview

Reporting to the Director of Financial Planning & Analysis for Commercial and Medical, the Senior Financial Analyst will be a key member of Alnylam's FP&A team supporting these business units. This role will partner with Finance Business Partners and business stakeholders to support core financial planning, reporting, and operational finance activities, including monthly accruals, committed budget tracking, variance analysis, and forecast development and uploads. The position requires strong analytical skills, rigorous attention to detail, and the ability to translate financial data into insights that support business decision-making.

This is a hybrid role and will primarily be based in Cambridge, MA.

Key Responsibilities



  • Maintain committed and uncommitted budget trackers, open purchase order reports, and key expense tracking tools to support visibility into spend and budget availability.
  • Prepare and review monthly accruals in partnership with Accounting, Finance Business Partners, and budget owners to help ensure expenses are recorded accurately.
  • Build monthly budget-to-actual reporting for Commercial and Medical Affairs, including preparation of variance analyses, expense summaries, and other reporting materials for Finance and business stakeholders.
  • Responsible for analyzing variances between headcount actuals and budget to ensure accurate headcount reporting and forecasting.
  • Build, maintain, and update forecast templates and planning files; support the development of reforecasts, annual investment plans, and long-range planning inputs.
  • Upload forecast inputs into Alnylam's financial planning systems and ensure data is complete, accurate, and aligned with assumptions.
  • Drive continuous improvement opportunities across planning, reporting, and expense management processes, with a focus on scalability and data integrity.
  • Create ad hoc financial analyses, reports, and process support materials as needed to support Commercial, Medical Affairs, and FP&A priorities.


Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree required; degree in Accounting, Finance or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant finance, accounting, or FP&A experience.
  • Understanding of key accounting concepts relevant to expense management (accruals, prepaid expense recognition, capex vs. opex)
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel
  • Strong attention to detail and demonstrated ability to prepare accurate financial analyses, reports, and planning inputs.
  • Able to manage competing priorities with tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with Finance and business partners.
  • Ability to work sensitively with confidential material.
  • Preferred but not required:

    • Experience with Adaptive financial reporting system and SAP ERP
    • Pharmaceutical or Biotech industry experience
    • Proven ability to make manual processes more system-driven and scalable

The pay range below reflects the full-time base salary range we expect to pay for this role at the time of posting. Base pay will be determined based on a number of factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, skills, and education. This role is eligible for an annual short-term incentive award (e.g., bonus or sales incentive) and an annual long-term incentive award (e.g., equity).
