This internship involves hands-on technical work with a developing focus on cybersecurity. Interns apply intermediate technical knowledge, collaborate closely with project teams, and contribute to the design, implementation, and support of cybersecurity solutions. Key Responsibilities:
- Participate in the analysis, design, development, testing, and deployment of applications, web solutions, and/or cloud-native services.
- Support DevOps/DevSecOps activities (e.g., working with Git repositories, build pipelines, automated testing, and Infrastructure as Code).
- Assist in the design and evaluation of cybersecurity solutions, including vulnerability assessments, incident response support, and secure configuration tasks.
- Contribute to integration of Microsoft 365 and other cloud services, including APIs, data flows, and workflow automation.
- Provide technical assistance to users and project teams by diagnosing and resolving moderately complex issues and documenting solutions.
- Develop and deliver presentations or demonstrations summarizing project work, prototypes, or findings.
Manager Defined Field:
- Support the Cybersecurity team in monitoring security tools (e.g., SIEM, vulnerability scanners, endpoint protection) to identify, log, and escalate potential threats in accordance with established procedures.
- Assist in documenting the current cybersecurity and network architectures, including asset inventories, data flows, and security control implementations, to support audits, assessments, and system accreditation activities.
- Participate in the execution and documentation of vulnerability assessments and security testing (e.g., scanning, configuration reviews), including tracking findings through remediation and retest.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of cybersecurity runbooks, standard operating procedures, and incident response playbooks tailored to specific systems, applications, and environments.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., IT, network engineering, system administrators) to verify that security requirements are incorporated into system changes, upgrades, and new deployments.
Required Qualifications:
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate degree program in Engineering, MIS/IT, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related technical field as a 2nd Year/Sophomore or 3rd Year/Junior.
- Intermediate understanding of programming concepts, object-oriented design, and/or databases based on coursework or project experience.
- Familiarity with web/application development tools and languages (e.g., ASP.NET/Blazor, React, Angular, JavaScript, Python, or similar).
- Understanding of fundamental cybersecurity principles (confidentiality, integrity, availability), basic networking, and operating system concepts.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks with guidance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working on multi-disciplinary project teams or prior internships in IT, software development, cybersecurity, DevOps, or related fields.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms and Microsoft 365 services (e.g., Teams, SharePoint, Power BI, Power Apps).
- Exposure to security tools such as vulnerability scanners, log analysis tools, or network sniffers, and understanding of security best practices.
- Basic-level IT or cybersecurity certifications (e.g., Security+, Network+, A+, or equivalent).
- Determined by management, if applicable.
