Environmental, Health, Quality Supervisor

Covia is looking for a dynamic Quality & EHS Supervisor who will have a positive impact on our team at our McIntyre, GA location. The Quality & EHS Supervisor is responsible for overseeing site quality assurance activities, MSHA safety compliance, and environmental reporting support for the McIntyre plant. This position ensures that finished products meet customer specifications, plant operations comply with applicable Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA), environmental, and company requirements.

The successful candidate will have the following Key Accountabilities:

Quality:

• Oversee site quality assurance and quality control processes.
• Review laboratory test results for raw materials, in-process products, and finished goods.
• Generate and issue Certificates of Analysis (COAs) for customer shipments.
• Maintain quality records, testing documentation, and product traceability.
• Monitor product specifications and investigate quality deviations or customer complaints.
• Coordinate with operations personnel regarding process adjustments necessary to maintain product quality.
• Establish raw clay blending requirements based on iron content and other product specifications.
• Coordinate raw clay sourcing and ordering from designated mine sites.
• Evaluate incoming raw materials and ensure compliance with plant quality standards.
• Work with production and laboratory personnel to optimize blend consistency and product performance.
• Maintain calibration and verification records for quality-related equipment as required.
• Support internal and external audits related to quality systems.

Safety, Health, & Enviromental:

• Coordinate and support site compliance with all applicable MSHA regulations and company safety policies.
• Maintain required MSHA documentation, training records, inspection records, and compliance files.
• Coordinate MSHA Part 46 training, new miner training, annual refresher training, and task training requirements.
• Assist in preparation for and coordination of MSHA inspections and follow-up corrective actions.
• Conduct routine workplace examinations, safety inspections, and hazard assessments.
• Track and maintain corrective actions resulting from inspections, audits, incidents, and near misses.
• Participate in incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.
• Maintain safety statistics, reports, and documentation including accident, injury, and near-miss reporting.
• Coordinate contractor safety orientation and compliance requirements.
• Maintain SDS records, hazard communication documentation, and chemical inventory records.
• Support development and maintenance of emergency response plans and preparedness activities.
• Coordinate required environmental reporting and maintain environmental compliance documentation.
• Assist with dust control, housekeeping, exposure monitoring, and other health and safety initiatives.
• Support continuous improvement efforts related to safety culture and regulatory compliance.
• Serve as a site resource for employee safety concerns, compliance questions, and regulatory requirements.
• Coordinate visitor management and contractor access requirements.
• Coordinate with plant management regarding site security concerns or incidents.
• Support emergency response and incident communication procedures.
• Other duties as assigned

The successful candidate will have the following Minimum Qualifications:

• Associate degree or bachelor's degree in a technical, environmental, safety, engineering, chemistry, or related field preferred.
• Equivalent industrial or mining experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
• Experience in mining, mineral processing, manufacturing, chemical processing, or industrial operations preferred.
• Working knowledge of MSHA regulations, workplace examinations, training requirements, and compliance documentation preferred.
• Working knowledge of quality systems, laboratory data review, and product specification management.
• Familiarity with environmental reporting requirements and industrial safety programs preferred.
• Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and plant reporting systems.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a small-site environment.

• Product quality consistency and customer specification compliance.
• Timely and accurate COA issuance.
• Effective raw material blending and inventory coordination.
• Compliance with MSHA, environmental, and company reporting requirements.
• Reduction in incidents, citations, non-conformances, and regulatory findings.
• Completion and tracking of required MSHA training and corrective actions.
