Position Summary
This position is responsible for the overall management and administration of the University Golf Course. The primary focus of the position is to continuously provide a superior golf product and service and develop the University of Georgia Golf Course brand utilizing marketing and internal resources. Responsibilities involve a variety of duties to manage and maintain the golf course. The work involves collaboration with internal and external entities to promote and provide quality service at the UGA Golf Course. External entities may include community members, dignitaries, major donors, and UGAA or other universities athletic association personnel. This position is responsible for the overall perception of the UGA Golf Course by establishing and promoting a standard for providing exceptional products and services, whether on the course, at the driving range, or in the Pro Shop. The position consistently focuses on the overall quality, strategic development and budget management, while also forecasting future opportunities for growth and/or risk for the unit. This position is also responsible for promoting a safe and positive work environment, with integrity in employment practices and leadership relationships.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

  • Considerable knowledge of recreational operations and maintenance work.
  • Ability to interpret and evaluate complex situations, recognize and define problems, and develop appropriate solutions.
  • Adept in writing, speaking, presenting, influencing, and negotiating to achieve objectives.
  • Skilled in establishing and maintaining cooperation, understanding, trust, and credibility with a wide variety of constituents, including legislators, University donors, golf professionals, and community stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of personnel and business management to appropriately allocate resources and support operational needs.
  • Ability to lead, develop, and motivate staff while fostering a positive, collaborative, and customer-focused work environment.
  • Ability to ensure the appropriate skills, methods, and practices required to care for and maintain the golf course at a high level are in place.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, balance operational and strategic objectives, and maintain focus on service excellence and organizational goals.

    • golf course including, but not limited to course maintenance, driving range sales, Pro Shop retail sales, golf course rounds and events.



  • Works with a team of staff to develop and implement departmental strategies and manage the UGA Golf Course brand.
  • Responsible for aligning individual and team actions with Golf Course, Auxiliary and University strategies and plans to drive appropriate business results

  • Developsstrategies to improve the operation and ensure a superior product and service.

  • Acts as the community liaison for the UGA Golf Course, working with constituents oncampus, in the community, and as part of UGA Athletics.
  • Represents the University as the expert on all Golf related issues and may be called upon to speak with local government officials, media and other constituents.
  • Responds to and resolves complaints from a diverse customer population as well as the community.

  • Directs and coordinates through supervisory personnel, activities of personnel engaged in the successful operation of the UGA Golf Course.
  • Ensures sufficient hiring, recruitment, training, performance reviews, discipline, and staff development. Promotes a positive and safe work environment.

  • Establishes and oversees annual operating budgets as well as long-range budget plans; implements appropriate cost controls and is fiscally responsible for the financial outcomes of the UGA Golf Course.
  • Identifies, pursues and obtains additional funding sources including plausible grant and federal funding.

  • Establishes renovation and replacement objectives including, but not limited to:

    • Equipment maintenance replacement plans
    • Preventive maintenance for equipment
    • Coordination of any construction related golf course projects by meeting with contractors and architects.
