The Opportunity with McKinstry

McKinstry is looking for an Enterprise Insurance & Subcontracting Director to join our Corporate team in Seattle, WA. This role establishes and leads enterprise insurance and subcontract management capabilities that protect enterprise assets, strengthen commercial risk management, and support subcontracting across the enterprise. The role owns strategy, governance, controls, operating models, executive reporting, and cross-functional alignment across Insurance/Risk, Legal, Supply Chain, Finance, Operations, and Safety. Additional responsibilities may include:

Strategy & Governance

  • Own enterprise insurance strategy, including coverage market trends and long-term risk financing, including retained risk, self-insurance and captive structures.

  • Build and govern the enterprise insurance program, including policies renewals, carriers, standards and risk-transfer requirements.

Insurance Capability

  • Assess and strengthen insurance processes, systems, reporting, controls, and financial analysis.

  • Identify capability gaps and implement practical improvements across Finance, Risk, Legal, Operations, and other key partners.

Subcontract Management

  • Lead the enterprise subcontract management function, provide guidance and leadership to Subcontracts team.

  • Establish enterprise standards across the subcontract lifecycle, from prequalification and award through execution, performance monitoring, and closeout.

  • Partner across Operations, Procurement/Supply Chain, Legal, Finance, Safety, and Risk to strengthen subcontractor selection, compliance, and commercial risk management.

  • Drive standardization, automation, and enterprise visibility across subcontract processes and performance.

Loss Management & Analytics

  • Lead enterprise loss management - analyzing claims trends, loss drivers, and reserves across the portfolio to reduce total cost of risk and drive operational improvement - in partnership with Legal.

  • Deliver executive reporting and analytics that turn insurance, subcontract, and risk data into business insight.

What You Need To Succeed at McKinstry:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, or a related field, or equivalent experience required; relevant risk/insurance certification (e.g., ARM, CPCU) preferred.

  • Twelve (12+) years of progressive insurance, risk management, subcontract management, or related commercial operations experience required; construction or self-performing contractor experience preferred.

  • Broad command of core commercial insurance lines, claims management, with experience in subcontracting, contractional risk transfer or construction contracting preferred.

  • Proven experience building programs, mentoring or leading teams, and advising senior leadership on complex commercial, operational, and enterprise risk matters.

  • Strong analytical, communication, negotiation, change leadership, and relationship-management skills.

The pay range for this position is $137,880 - $240,400 per year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. A bonus may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered. Base pay information is based on market location.
