Role Details & Schedule
- Work Location: 100% Remote (EST is MUST)
- Hours: Part-Time (20-28 hours per week; shifts structured in 5- to 6-hour blocks; 4-5 shifts per week)
- Schedule: 8:00 AM EST start time; potential weekend morning availability
Role Overview & Primary Responsibilities
- Content Quality Control: Copyedit editorial pieces, show titles, descriptions, and social content to ensure accuracy, proper style, clear structure, and legal soundness.
- Workflow Management: Coordinate continuous copy flow among editors, fact-checkers, and a team of up to a dozen editorial staff members.
- Website Maintenance: Build, format, and maintain digital pages using WordPress and custom digital publishing tools.
Required Qualifications & Hard Skills
- Copyediting Experience: 2+ years of professional copyediting experience for a daily, weekly, or monthly publication or high-volume publishing/journalism environment.
- Style Guide Mastery: Strong command of AP and Chicago styles.
- Technical Proficiency: Experience with Content Management Systems (WordPress) and web-based production tools.
- Editing Mechanics: Exceptional command of English grammar, line editing, structure, tone, punctuation, and proofreading under tight deadlines.
Soft Skills & Competencies
- Deadline Pressure: Proven ability to manage high-volume turnaround times in a fast-paced environment.
- Collaborative Communication: Strong interpersonal skills to partner effectively across a multi-editor copy desk.
- Editorial Judgment: Ability to go beyond surface-level proofreading to evaluate stories for taste, legal issues, sentence flow, and journalistic integrity.
Preferred Experience
- Sports & Culture Domain Knowledge: Sports-editing background (or high comfort reading sports copy) and familiarity with pop-culture content.
- Digital Media Production: Background in digital publishing, web media production, and deep feature editing.
Role Challenges & Profile Exclusions
- Strict Role Focus: Requires a dedicated copyediting background in publishing, journalism, or corporate communications.
- Non-Matching Backgrounds: Candidates whose experience is exclusively in general marketing, copywriting, social media management, public relations, or TV production will not align with this position.
