Overview

Develop and manage marketing strategies for the Comercial Lines and E&S segments and build and manage a team that serves as the liaison between Corporate Marketing, Strategic Business Units (SBUs) and the Regional Offices. Design, develop, and execute innovative marketing strategies such as Marketing in a Box to serve as the conduit to operationalize all marketing efforts with our field and agency partners. This individual will create the strategic plan to provide turnkey marketing tools to help drive new business and retention opportunities. All job duties and responsibilities must be carried out in compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.

Note: (For NJ candidates) This role will be located at our future headquarters in Short Hills, N.J. Until the new headquarters is operational, the successful candidate will be offered the ability to work in our Branchville, N.J. location during this interim period.


Responsibilities

  • Lead with the development and implementation of a marketing strategy aligned with corporate and regional business objectives based on a tailored set of functional expertise used to achieve strategic goals focusing on profitable growth and retention. Ensure all marketing and communication strategies enhance Selective's brand position. Utilize knowledge of marketing to create multi-channel marketing communication solutions targeted to different audience segments/needs within assigned local market.
  • Establish strong relationships with regional partners; ensure the Comercial Lines and E&S Team becomes fully immersed in Corporate and Regional goals and strategies.
  • Collaborate with senior leaders and other business partners across the organization to develop a quarterly Marketing in a Box calendar to maintain consistent and prominent messaging, elevate Marketing's presence and influence the adoption rate of key initiatives.
  • Develop and implement a marketing strategy for Comercial Lines and E&S aligned with company business objectives based on a tailored set of functional expertise used to achieve strategic goals focusing on profitable growth and retention.
  • Use a data-driven, story-telling approach designed to drive net premium written, retention and brand health. Provide input across the Marketing area in developing a marketing communications strategic plan.
  • Lead and partner with various business partners to utilize measurement processes to gauge success and measure return on investment. Utilize functional metrics and measurement processes as a critical success factor to drive best practices.
  • Develop, support and lead staff in execution of the department's strategies and key initiatives, including preparation and management of the department's operating and expense budget.
  • Continuously look for efficiencies in current processes along with new and innovative marketing solutions to help with the continuous improvement of marketing solutions.
  • Conduct long term planning of complex, strategic and major marketing communication programs. Forecast marketing communication needs.
  • Must be able to travel to regional offices. Travel represents approximately 20-50% of employee's time.

Qualifications

Knowledge and Requirements

  • Able to create and deliver concise and impactful communications to internal and external audiences to inform, engage and influence.
  • Expert knowledge within a marketing communications field and the ability to integrate critical information from many diverse areas.
  • Inspire confidence in others and is seen as a team player to capture the trust and respect of stakeholders at all levels.
  • Keep abreast of industry emerging practice and best-in-class marketing initiatives and strategies.
  • Thorough understanding of the insurance business model.
  • Must be able to manage outsourced firms, vendors and other high-value providers in a seamless way that best supports Selective's business unit success.
  • Must be able to work with broad latitude for decision-making and priority setting while maximizing the talent of small flexible staff committed to a very high level of responsiveness, quality and service.
  • Capable of managing the position's operational, administrative and supervisory duties.
  • Must have valid state issued driver's license in good standing and be able to drive an automobile.

Education and Experience

  • College degree in marketing or related field preferred.
  • 8+ years of experience in marketing and/or sales, creating marketing strategies and deploying them tactically acting as a "working manager".
  • Proven ability to develop measurable marketing plans that align with sales objectives.
  • Strong understanding of Property & Casualty insurance is preferred.

The actual base salary is based on geographic location, and the range is representative of salaries for this role throughout Selective's footprint. Additional considerations include relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, performance, and business needs.
