Neuro-oncologist

The Department of Neurology at the University of California, Davis, School of Medicine, in collaboration with the Departments of Neurological Surgery and Radiation Oncology and the UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center, seeks an academic Neuro-Oncologist for a full-time faculty position. The faculty position may be in the Health Sciences Clinical Professor or Clinical X series at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

UC Davis Health is a major academic health system serving a large and diverse referral region across Northern California. The UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center is an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center with active clinical and translational research programs. The Departments of Neurology and Neurological Surgery are nationally ranked by U.S. News & World Report.

The Neuro-Oncology program is undergoing strategic expansion as part of the continued development of the UC Davis Brain Tumor Center. The program provides multidisciplinary care for patients with primary and metastatic tumors of the nervous system and works closely with Neurological Surgery, Radiation Oncology, Neuropathology, Neuroradiology, Medical Oncology, and other Cancer Center programs. The program has an active portfolio of clinical trials, including investigator-initiated studies, and growing translational research activities.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will join a growing academic Neuro-Oncology program and participate in the clinical care of patients with tumors of the nervous system in both outpatient and inpatient settings. The candidate will work closely with colleagues across the Brain Tumor Center to expand patient access, multidisciplinary care, clinical trials, and academic programs.

We seek a collaborative and academically motivated Neuro-Oncologist who will contribute to the continued growth of the program and develop and lead an area of academic focus complementary to existing strengths. Areas of interest may include clinical trials and experimental therapeutics, translational or biomarker research, outcomes research, supportive care and survivorship, CNS metastases, or other areas relevant to neuro-oncology. Candidates with other complementary academic interests are encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will participate in clinical trial development and enrollment and will have opportunities to develop investigator-initiated clinical trials, translational research, and multidisciplinary collaborations across UC Davis Health and the Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Faculty responsibilities include:

• Providing high-quality outpatient and inpatient Neuro-Oncology care
• Participating in multidisciplinary brain tumor conferences and collaborative clinical programs
• Contributing to clinical trial enrollment and development
• Developing scholarly, clinical, or translational activities consistent with the candidate's academic interests and faculty series
• Teaching and mentoring medical students, residents, fellows, and other trainees
• Participating in university and professional service.

* Candidates must possess an MD or DO

* Board certified in Neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN)

* A valid California medical license or eligibility for licensure in the State of California

* Candidates should demonstrate excellence in clinical care and the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary academic environment. Academic accomplishments and expectations will be commensurate with faculty rank and series

* For the Clinical X series, prior experience conducting scholarly/clinical/translational research and a record of publication in peer reviewed journals.

* Completion of a minimum one year fellowship training in a UCNS-accredited neuro-oncology program

* Board eligible or board certified for UCNS Neuro-Oncology.

* For the Clinical X series, evidence of success in obtaining extramural funding and/or administering clinical trials.
