About the Job

The Division of Pediatric, Adolescent and Young Adult Hematology and Oncology offers state-of-the-art clinical care, consultation, education and follow-up in a compassionate, family-centered environment to all patients with cancer and blood disorders. Our multidisciplinary, collaborative team comprises of pediatric hematologists / oncologists, oncology nurse practitioners, APHON certified oncology nurses, clinical research associates, social workers, case managers, psychiatrists, art therapists, nutritionists, patient advocates and chaplains. We specialize in treating patients with all pediatric cancer and blood disorders-from infants to 29 years of age in an academic setting utilizing the latest advancements in treatment and research.

Part of the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, the area's only NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center and one of only 41 in the nation, our Pediatric Hematology / Oncology Program is a Full Member of the Children's Oncology Group, offering eligible patients participation in state of the art clinical trials.

The Division of Pediatric, Adolescent and Young Adult Hematology and Oncology is currently seeking a clinical nurse to provide comprehensive care. Responsibilities include:

  • assessment of physical and psychosocial needs
  • patient education
  • administration of chemotherapy, immunotherapy and blood products, along with other infusion therapies
  • evaluation of the patient's response to interventions, implements appropriate changes and assists in symptom management, coordination of internal and external resources
  • triage unexpected patient visits and facilitate communication between all members of the healthcare team.

Key Responsibilities

As a Clinical Nurse, you will provide skilled, compassionate care to patients and families across a spectrum of needs-from routine to highly complex. You will assess evolving patient conditions, identify actual and potential health concerns, and develop appropriate care plans. Interventions may be delivered directly or coordinated through collaboration with other members of the nursing team.

Qualifications

  • ADN, BSN, MSN, or CNL from an accredited School of Nursing required. If prepared at the associate degree in nursing level required to enroll in a BSN program within 12 months of hire date and completion within 4 years of hire date.
  • At least one to two years of pediatric RN experience required.
  • Pediatric oncology experience preferred.
  • Active DC RN License and Basic Life Support for Healthcare providers required (AHA or American Red Cross).
  • ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy certification required within 90 days of hire.
  • APHON oncology certification preferred.
  • Ambulatory care experience preferred.
  • Excellent phlebotomy skills required.
