| Position Summary |
Winston-Salem State University is seeking a Support Services Associate to join the team in the Mail Center. This position provides accurate and efficient mail and package services to students, faculty, staff, and University departments. Responsibilities include operating the retail service window, receiving and processing incoming and outgoing mail and packages, sorting and distributing campus mail, maintaining package tracking records, and assisting customers with postal and shipping needs.
The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, service-minded, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with frequent customer interaction.
Key Responsibilities
The Support Services Associate will:
- Receive, sort, process, and distribute USPS mail, interoffice mail, and packages from commercial carriers.
- Process outgoing letters, packages, certified mail, priority mail, and other shipments.
- Operate postage meters, scanners, scales, computers, package tracking systems, and other Mail Center equipment.
- Provide front-line customer service at the Mail Center service window.
- Assist students, faculty, and staff with package pickup, mailing, shipping, and general Mail Center inquiries.
- Verify identification and obtain required signatures for accountable mail and packages.
- Maintain accurate package tracking, delivery, pickup, and return records.
- Deliver and retrieve mail and packages from designated locations across campus.
- Research and resolve incorrectly addressed, unidentified, undeliverable, or missing mail and packages.
- Maintain a secure, organized mail processing and package storage area.
- Assist with bulk mailings, departmental mailings, and special University projects.
- Monitor mailing supplies and report equipment, safety, or operational concerns.
- Provide backup support during absences, peak periods, and high-volume operations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalency and demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Experience in customer service, mail services, shipping and receiving, package handling, retail operations, logistics, or a related environment is preferred. |

The mission of Business Services Department is to provide quality services to the university community in the areas of Auxiliary Services, Passport, Postal Services, Ticket Office, Food Service, Bookstore, Ram Graphics and the Office of Conferences and Institutes in the manner that all auxiliary and support units assigned to the department operates efficiently within the definition and guidelines established in the University Trust Fund Authorization document. |

Mail and Package Processing
- The incumbent should understand the general mail services operations in order to review mail and information for completeness and accuracy. The incumbent will be responsible for maintaining records for incoming mail/outgoing mail in order to ensure charges are accurately charged to the appropriate departments. Responsible for metering of outgoing USPS mail using Pitney Bowes system. Ensure accurate charges are posted to the appropriate departments.
