Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate and assist with pile-driving equipment, cranes, hammers, vibratory drivers, and related construction machinery.
  • Install steel piles, H-piles, pipe piles, sheet piles, and other deep foundation systems.
  • Perform structural welding, fabrication, cutting, and fitting using SMAW, FCAW, and other approved welding processes.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, specifications, and survey layouts.
  • Measure, align, and position piles and structural members to ensure proper installation.
  • Conduct field modifications and repairs to piles, bridge components, structural steel, and construction equipment as required.
  • Assemble, maintain, and disassemble pile-driving leads, templates, and support structures.
  • Inspect welds and completed installations to ensure compliance with project requirements and applicable codes.
  • Assist with rigging, signaling, and material handling activities.
  • Perform daily equipment inspections and report maintenance needs.
  • Work closely with crane operators, laborers, carpenters, ironworkers, and other craft personnel.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • Follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, DOT requirements, and site-specific procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in pile driving, structural welding, heavy civil construction, bridge construction, or related field.
  • Ability to pass welding qualification tests as required by project specifications.
  • Knowledge of structural steel erection, pile-driving methods, and heavy equipment operations.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Valid driver's license preferred.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, and travel as project schedules require.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proficient in structural welding and field fabrication techniques.
  • Knowledge of highway, bridge, and heavy civil construction practices.
  • Ability to safely use welding machines, torches, grinders, and hand tools.
  • Understanding of rigging and crane safety practices.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds; occasionally lift more with assistance.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and work from heights for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces when required.
  • Must be capable of wearing all required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and humidity.

Work Environment

  • Highway, bridge, marine, and heavy civil construction sites.
  • Exposure to moving equipment, elevated work areas, noise, vibration, dust, fumes, and changing weather conditions.
  • Regular travel and work at remote project locations may be required.

Certifications Preferred

  • AWS Certified Welder
  • NCCER Welding Certification
  • OSHA 10-Hour or OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety Certification
  • Signal Person and Rigging Certifications
  • First Aid/CPR Certification
