Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Phlebotomist II to join a geriatric primary care practice in Boone, NC. The selected candidate will be responsible for collecting blood samples, processing specimens, preparing samples for laboratory courier pickup, entering patient information, and tracking and monitoring laboratory results. This position involves approximately 30-40 blood draws per day and requires the ability to work independently while maintaining accuracy, patient safety, and excellent communication.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform approximately 30-40 blood draws per day.
- Collect blood samples from geriatric patients in a primary care setting.
- Process and prepare specimens for laboratory courier pickup.
- Properly label, handle, and store specimens according to established procedures.
- Track and monitor laboratory results.
- Perform accurate data entry and maintain patient records.
- Verify and update patient demographic and insurance information.
- Follow physician orders and established specimen collection procedures.
- Maintain specimen integrity throughout collection and processing.
- Follow all applicable safety, infection control, and laboratory procedures.
- Provide professional and courteous patient service during blood collection.
- Work independently while managing multiple tasks efficiently.
- Perform other assigned phlebotomy and patient service duties as needed.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Phlebotomy training required.
- Experience performing blood draws/venipuncture.
- Strong communication skills.
- Basic computer knowledge.
- Ability to multitask in a healthcare environment.
- Ability to work independently.
- Must be able to perform blood collections successfully.
- Ability to stand intermittently throughout an 8-hour workday.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a primary care, laboratory, hospital, or healthcare setting.
- Experience working with geriatric patients.
- Experience handling a high volume of blood draws.
- Knowledge of patient demographics and insurance information.
- Experience with specimen processing and laboratory courier preparation.
Work Environment
- Onsite position in a geriatric primary care practice.
- The phlebotomist will collect blood samples for four doctors.
- Candidate will primarily work independently.
- Standing will be required intermittently throughout the 8-hour workday.
Training
The selected candidate will receive:
- 1 week of online training
- 1 week of onsite training
- Additional training may be provided depending on the candidate's skill level and experience.
