JOB DESCRIPTION

We are seeking a Staff Developer to provide technical leadership in designing, building, and evolving scalable backend services, shared platform capabilities, and AI-enabled engineering solutions across MediaCloud. This is a senior individual contributor role responsible for driving architecture, establishing engineering standards, and delivering reusable technologies that accelerate development across multiple product teams.

The ideal candidate combines deep expertise in cloud-native software engineering with hands-on experience using AI-assisted development and agentic workflows to build production-ready systems. You will lead the design of highly scalable backend services, reusable platform components, APIs, and AI-enabled capabilities while mentoring engineers and influencing technical direction across the organization.

Success in this role requires strong software architecture skills, ownership of complex technical initiatives, excellent communication, and the ability to balance long-term platform strategy with practical product delivery. Experience in media digital supply chains and modern AI platforms is highly desirable.

A SNAPSHOT OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the architecture, design, and implementation of scalable backend services, APIs, and shared platform capabilities.
  • Build and maintain cloud-native applications using AWS technologies including Lambda, Step Functions, SQS, RDS, S3, Bedrock, SageMaker, ECS/EKS, and related services.
  • Design reusable platform components, orchestration services, and integration frameworks that can be adopted across multiple engineering teams.
  • Architect modular systems that allow services, AI models, workflows, frameworks, and integrations to evolve independently as technologies change.
  • Lead technical discussions, architecture reviews, and design decisions across multiple teams.
  • Define engineering standards for APIs, workflows, observability, reliability, security, testing, and operational excellence.
  • Develop and maintain scalable event-driven services using TypeScript, with Python or Java where appropriate.
  • Build search and retrieval capabilities using OpenSearch and other modern indexing technologies.
  • Leverage AI-powered development tools and agentic workflows to accelerate software development, code generation, testing, documentation, and validation while maintaining a high engineering quality bar.
  • Review AI-generated and human-written code with equal rigor, ensuring maintainability, security, scalability, and correctness.
  • Partner with engineering teams to transform reusable patterns into shared platform capabilities that reduce duplicate development effort.
  • Create technical documentation, workflow diagrams, architecture documentation, and implementation guidance for engineering teams.
  • Debug and resolve complex production issues using CloudWatch, Datadog, and other monitoring and observability platforms.
  • Improve system scalability, resiliency, reliability, and performance across distributed services.
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, and engineering productivity using GitHub Actions and modern DevOps practices.
  • Mentor engineers through technical leadership, code reviews, architecture guidance, and engineering best practices.
  • Drive adoption of engineering standards, platform capabilities, and modern software development practices across the organization.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

  • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience designing and delivering large-scale distributed systems.
  • Expert knowledge of AWS cloud services, including Lambda, SQS, Step Functions, RDS, S3, and experience with AWS AI services such as Bedrock and SageMaker.
  • Strong proficiency in TypeScript, with experience in Python and/or Java.
  • Strong understanding of object-oriented, functional, and event-driven software architecture.
  • Experience designing scalable APIs, backend platforms, workflow orchestration, and distributed systems.
  • Hands-on experience using AI-assisted development tools and agentic workflows as part of day-to-day software engineering.
  • Demonstrated ability to architect reusable platforms and shared engineering capabilities used across multiple teams.
  • Experience designing modular systems with clear interfaces that accommodate evolving technologies.
  • Strong experience reviewing code, mentoring engineers, and leading technical initiatives.
  • Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions or similar tooling.
  • Experience debugging production systems using CloudWatch, Datadog, or equivalent observability platforms.
  • Knowledge of relational, NoSQL, caching, and search technologies, including OpenSearch.
  • Strong understanding of software quality, automated testing, performance optimization, security, and operational excellence.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence technical direction across engineering organizations.

NICE TO HAVE, BUT NOT A DEALBREAKER

  • AWS Certifications (Developer Associate, Solutions Architect, or equivalent).
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, CDK).
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, ECS, or EKS.
  • Experience building AI-enabled applications, LLM systems, agentic workflows, or applied automation platforms.
  • Experience with vector search technologies including OpenSearch, pgvector, or Chroma.
  • Experience integrating multiple AI model providers behind common interfaces.
  • Experience within media, broadcast, streaming, or digital supply chain environments.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

  • Shared platform capabilities are adopted by multiple engineering teams and reduce duplicate development effort.
  • Backend services consistently meet reliability, scalability, performance, and operational goals.
  • AI-enabled engineering workflows measurably improve engineering productivity while maintaining high software quality standards.
  • Platform architectures remain modular and adaptable as cloud services and AI technologies evolve.
  • Engineering standards for testing, observability, documentation, and code quality are consistently followed across teams.
  • Technical designs, APIs, and platform capabilities enable product teams to deliver new features more quickly and reliably.
  • Engineers across the organization are more effective through mentoring, reusable tooling, and shared engineering practices.
