Creative Systems Developer

Location: Cupertino, CA (Hybrid)

Duration: 12-Month Contract

Pay Rate: $69.15 per hour


Overview

Our client is seeking a Creative Systems Developer to join a Creative Infrastructure team supporting a global design organization. This role sits at the intersection of software engineering, systems infrastructure, and creative technology, building the internal tools, APIs, automation, and infrastructure that enable designers and creative teams to produce world-class digital experiences.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in systems engineering, backend development, or DevOps and enjoys solving complex infrastructure challenges within creative production environments. You'll partner with engineering, networking, security, and desktop support teams while building scalable solutions that improve reliability, automation, and productivity for creative professionals around the world.


Responsibilities
Systems Development & Automation

  • Design, build, and maintain internal applications, APIs, and automation tools that support creative production workflows.
  • Develop Python-based services and automation to improve infrastructure operations and team efficiency.
  • Create shell scripts and utilities that streamline system administration and repetitive operational tasks.
  • Research, evaluate, and implement new technologies that enhance creative infrastructure and engineering workflows.

Infrastructure Engineering

  • Deploy, manage, and scale services running in Kubernetes environments.
  • Build integrations between infrastructure platforms, internal applications, and third-party services.
  • Maintain high-performance storage environments and ensure optimal system performance.
  • Support cloud infrastructure and services while maintaining scalability and reliability.

Storage & Platform Administration

  • Administer enterprise network-attached storage platforms such as Qumulo or comparable technologies.
  • Implement and maintain backup, disaster recovery, and data redundancy strategies.
  • Monitor infrastructure health and troubleshoot storage, server, networking, and application performance issues.
  • Support software license servers and assist with software deployment and configuration.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with engineering, security, networking, desktop support, and creative teams to deliver technical solutions.
  • Translate creative production needs into scalable engineering solutions.
  • Participate in architecture planning and technology roadmap discussions.
  • Clearly communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Documentation & Operational Excellence

  • Create and maintain technical documentation for APIs, automation tools, infrastructure, and operational procedures.
  • Contribute to system standards, engineering best practices, and process improvements.
  • Support ongoing monitoring, maintenance, and optimization of production systems.
  • Help ensure infrastructure remains secure, reliable, and highly available.

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in systems engineering, DevOps, backend development, or infrastructure engineering.
  • Experience supporting media, creative, design, or production environments is highly desirable.
  • Strong proficiency with Python for automation, API development, and systems tooling.
  • Experience with Kubernetes and container orchestration platforms.
  • Experience working with cloud infrastructure such as:

    • Amazon EC2
    • Amazon S3
    • Or equivalent cloud services

  • Experience administering Linux production environments.
  • Strong shell scripting skills (Bash or similar).
  • Experience with enterprise storage platforms such as:

    • Qumulo
    • Dell EMC Isilon
    • NetApp
    • Or similar high-performance storage solutions

  • Understanding of networking fundamentals including TCP/IP and system performance troubleshooting.
  • Experience using Git, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure automation tools such as:

    • Terraform
    • Ansible
    • Puppet
    • JAMF

  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience leveraging AI tools and automation techniques to improve engineering workflows and internal services.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with creative production workflows, media pipelines, or visual effects environments.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud, Sketch, Frame.io, or similar creative platforms.
  • Experience working with VMware vSphere environments.
  • Knowledge of SQL, PostgreSQL, or other relational databases.
  • Experience implementing system monitoring and observability platforms.
  • Appreciation for design principles, visual consistency, and user experience when developing internal tools.
  • Understanding of accessibility best practices for internal applications and tools.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field preferred.
  • Equivalent professional experience will also be considered.
