Description |
Engineering Manager is responsible for managing a department of engineers, each of which will have multiple engineering and project assignments across the organization. The assignments will include the project management of large capital projects as well as supporting sites' safety and manufacturing processes through project execution. The Engineering Manager is responsible for evaluating and driving each team member within the department to effectively deliver assignments and projects to the expectations of the internal customer. This includes effectively managing the engineering performance, application of codes and standards, and delivery against goals and objectives of the department. This position involves coaching, reviewing, and managing engineers through development, design, and project management of projects. In addition to the management responsibilities, the Engineering Manager may be required to lead and serve in a project manager function on strategic, cross functional teams and projects. Travel between the Aurorium manufacturing sites will be required. |

Role Specific Responsibilities:
- Reports into the Project & Optimization Engineering Leader and carries the responsibility of managing a team of corporate engineers that will deliver engineered capital projects and provide manufacturing troubleshooting support as needed.
- In collaboration with the Engineering Leader, this position requires management of individual project assignments through prioritization with commercial, leadership, and site management teams.
- Responsible for the management of direct functional reports and seeks opportunities to develop engineers to have a blended process design and project management capability including the ability to evaluate, define, design, and execute improvement projects.
- Review and approve team members' quality of work, efficiency, and effectiveness of engineering performance. The manager will oversee and ensure projects are delivered safely while achieving the desired objectives and goals.
- Demonstrates effective communication, organization, prioritization, and status updates for the department.
- Serves as a global advocate for process controls and automation enhancements and consistency across the organization
- Encourages and leads the department in the development of realistic action plans which define the objectives, tasks and schedule to meet the project goals and expectations and ultimately satisfies the needs of the customers.
- Encourages decision making within department through guidance of each engineer in creative and innovative problem solving.
- Ability to quickly adapt and develop a degree of understanding of equipment and chemical processes at multiple facilities. Engineers within the team may be asked to support emergency, emerging manufacturing issues which will require a dynamic team culture to support these tasks.
- Assesses regulatory and compliance requirements and engages appropriate internal and external subject matter experts to ensure project implementation is delivered in accordance with all applicable codes.

Education and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering required
Experience
- 7+ years of experience in chemical process manufacturing, process design or project engineering
- Experience with operational functional control systems on chemical manufacturing processes.
- Demonstrated Project Management capabilities and the skills to lead and direct cross functional teams to deliver project objectives
- Familiarity using process safety tools (PHA, LOPA, MOC, Root Cause Analysis, etc.)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrated detailed knowledge of continuous and batch chemical operations including reaction, distillation, heat exchange, solids handling, utilities, and process control systems.
- Exhibits a passion for continuous improvement and problem solving
- Demonstrated experience planning and working with multi-disciplinary teams
- Demonstrated use of analytical tools and techniques to analyze data from development programs, plan and prioritize tasks, and develop design parameters for commercial process technology
- Demonstrated ability to manage the performance and effectiveness of direct reports
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability to adapt quickly to changing business needs and priorities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to flex own style as needed to influence and drive results.
- Critical thinking skills and analytical abilities which allow assessments of situations and opportunities.
- Flexibility to travel and supporting multiple sites
