Essential Functions: Assess, stabilize and observe the infant in the delivery room. Weighs the infant and gives medication after vaginal delivery. Promotes skin-to-skin maternal infant bonding and supports breastfeeding in the LDR. Demonstrates an ability to effectively interpret fetal monitor tracings and takes appropriate nursing action. Recognizes significant labor events and handles emergent situations well, using good critical thinking and good nursing judgment. Demonstrates the ability to triage patients in the PET unit by assessing, prioritizing and managing patients effectively. Performs the role of the circulating nurse for vaginal and C/S deliveries and scrubs for C/S deliveries when necessary. Recognizes each individual couple's birth plan and supports the same within the boundaries of the standard of care.
