This position will work a hybrid schedule which includes a combination of working both onsite in La Jolla and Hillcrest, and remote.

DESCRIPTION

UCSD Department of Otolaryngology is among the leading otolaryngology centers in the country. Under supervision of the Principal Investigator, the incumbent will provide comprehensive administrative support for a research projects aimed at disorders that impact the head and neck region. Responsibilities will include patient recruitment, protocol management, tracking study participants, data management and assistance with budget and resource management. Projects will included a variety of different projects that focus on diverse topics including but not limited to hearing loss, airway stenosis, swallowing, and nasal disease. The associate will have the opportunity to work with a number of physician scientists who are leaders in their respective field. The department requests but does not require at least a two-year time commitment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Theoretical knowledge of a life science in a field related to the research being conducted. Related fields may include any of the following fields of study. Engineering (Biomedical, chemical, electrical, and mechanical), molecular biology, computer science, or related disciplines.

  • Strong communication skills (both verbal and written) needed to interact professionally and effectively in the work environment, as well as effectively and accurately document research procedures. Demonstrated ability to read, comprehend and discuss research materials. Demonstrated ability to assist in the writing of papers for publication and research proposals.

  • Ability to coordinate studies with the lab and other departments. Demonstrated skill to plan and organize work assignments in an efficient and productive manner.

  • Willingness to learn new techniques and tasks.

  • Ability to read, interpret and apply protocols in conducting research. Demonstrated ability to following experimental protocols. Demonstrated skill to troubleshoot adaptations of experimental protocols.

  • Demonstrated skill in accurate record keeping and ability to organize, analyze, and calculate data.

  • Excellent organizational skills to order and maintain lab equipment and supplies. Experience with general lab maintenance, including cleaning and restocking supplies. Experience working and maintaining a sterile environment.

  • Enthusiasm for learning and a genuine interest in scientific research. Willingness and ability to learn new skills, research methods, and scientific principles.

  • Demonstrated effective time management skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Knowledge of UCSD Environmental Health and Safety requirements. Ability to write with correct syntax and grammar to clearly communicate ideas and protocols in writing to EH&S.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check.

  • Must be willing to work at various locations in Hillcrest and La Jolla.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $59,905 - $71,451 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $28.69 - $34.22

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
