The Social Content Strategist is the architect of the organization's Reddit content strategy, with a particular focus on answer engine optimization (AEO) - ensuring that faculty and institutional voices show up in AI-generated responses to high-intent student queries. This role builds the post prompt libraries that faculty use, develops content frameworks by program vertical, tracks AEO citation performance over time, and manages the day-to-day relationship with content agency partners. This is a strategy-first role for someone who understands both editorial craft and the mechanics of how Reddit content becomes an AI citation. Ideal candidares are in Chicago, Minneapolis, or DC Baltimore area and able to come onsite 2 days a week.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Content Strategy & Prompt Library Development

  • Own the Reddit post prompt library end to end: develop, iterate, and expand prompts across priority verticals (e.g., counseling/CMHC, social work, nursing/NP) as programs scale.
  • Build content frameworks that map student decision-stage questions to specific faculty expertise areas - ensuring the right person is answering the right question.
  • Translate program updates, accreditation milestones, research publications, and outcome data into Reddit-ready content angles that faculty can deliver authentically.
  • Maintain the content calendar for owned Reddit channels in coordination with the Community Manager.
  • Develop and maintain response template libraries for recurring question categories (accreditation, licensure pathways, program comparison, clinical hours).

Answer Engine Optimization (AEO)

  • Conduct regular AEO baseline audits: test 20+ high-priority student queries through Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Claude; track citation rate and citation quality over time.
  • Identify content gaps - student questions appearing in AI tools and Reddit threads that the institution has no credible, citable answer for.
  • Develop "anchor content" recommendations: specific Reddit thread types, post formats, and faculty Q&A structures likely to be cited by AI systems based on current citation patterns.
  • Produce a bi-weekly AEO performance report for leadership: citation rate movement, competitive citation landscape, and emerging gaps.

Agency & Partner Coordination

  • Manage the day-to-day content relationship with agency and content partners: brief deliverables, review drafts, maintain quality standards, and ensure brand voice consistency.
  • Ensure agency outputs (post prompts, research summaries, content calendars) meet the strategic brief and are ready to deploy without additional rework.
  • Work closely with the Community Manager to understand real-time community signals - what's resonating, what's falling flat - and adjust prompt strategy accordingly.
  • Partner with the Ambassador Program Manager to ensure the prompt library matches what faculty can authentically and comfortably deliver in their area of expertise.

Research & Competitive Intelligence

  • Monitor competitor Reddit presence for content gaps, engagement patterns, and strategic opportunities.
  • Track emerging subreddit communities, thread topics, and vocabulary patterns relevant to priority program verticals.
  • Produce a monthly competitive content intelligence brief for leadership and the broader marketing team.

This role does not...

  • Execute day-to-day community engagement or manage owned subreddits - that's the Community Manager.
  • Manage ambassador relationships or run training programs - that's the Ambassador Program Manager.

This role develops strategy and tools. The Community Manager and ambassadors execute them.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • 3-5 years of content strategy experience, with a social, community, or SEO/AEO component.
  • Solid understanding of Reddit culture and how content performs - you know the difference between a post that earns upvotes and one that gets flagged as astroturfing.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex, technical, or academic subject matter into clear, human, platform-appropriate content.
  • Experience managing agency or external content partner relationships.
  • Strong analytical skills; comfortable building and maintaining reporting frameworks.

Preferred

  • Experience with SEO, AEO, or AI-generated content optimization - ideally with direct exposure to how Reddit threads feed Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, or Perplexity.
  • Higher education or healthcare industry background, where program complexity and regulatory context shape content decisions.
  • Familiarity with social listening data as a content signal.
  • Experience with structured content models (FAQ schema, answer-ready pages, Q&A architecture).
