I. JOB OVERVIEW
| Job Description Summary: |
University Accounting Operations, under the Office of the University Controller, mission is to ensure the accuracy and completeness of the accounting data in the university's Oracle financial system. This department is responsible for the day-to-day operations of processing departmental journal entries, wires, remote check deposits, and for reconciling and analyzing balance sheet accounts. The department prepares and files various surveys/reports/returns for submission to external organizations.
The Accountant reports directly to the Manager, Accounting, and is responsible for applying generally accepted accounting principles and procedures to analyze financial information, prepare accurate and timely reconciliations, and ensure appropriate internal control procedures are met. The Accountant ensures the integrity of accounting information by recording, verifying, consolidating, and entering transactions to the general ledger.
Major Responsibilities:
- Prepares and reconciles various balance sheet accounts including prepaids and accrued liabilities accounts. Ensures journal entries are recorded in a timely manner using the appropriate general ledger accounts. In addition, prepares other journal entries and reconciliations for the University Accounting Operations and other Deputy Controller teams as assigned.
- Identifies, researches, and resolves discrepancies and irregularities in assigned accounts.
- Prepares various account analyses, journal entries and reconciliations during the closing process as well as interacts with our external auditors during the interim and year end audit process. Actively participate in finance projects and crossfunctional initiatives, collaborating with internal stakeholders to drive process improvements and support organizational objectives.

| Minimum Qualifications: |
Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. |

| Preferred Qualifications: |
- Bachelor in Accounting/Business degree from an accredited University.
- Experience in accounting preferred.
- Advanced proficiency in MS Excel skills with more advanced functions, including v-lookups, pivot tables, and possibly running macros.
- Basic knowledge of artificial intelligence-enabled productivity tools, such as Microsoft Copilot, and the ability to apply them under guidance to support routine accounting tasks and improve efficiency.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Detail oriented, accurate, and possess excellent organizational skills.
- Able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Able to work cooperatively in a team as well as work collaboratively with all levels of employees, management and external agencies.
