Ecological Restoration Foreman
POSITION SUMMARY
Ecological Restoration Foremen (Foremen/Foreman hereafter) are responsible for safely transporting laborers to and from a job site and managing daily activities while on site or in the shop. Foremen are to work collaboratively with other Foremen, Superintendents, and Directors to coordinate, schedule and assign responsibilities as necessary. The Foreman is responsible for each specific project assigned to them, including but not limited to budgeted hours, daily scheduling of tasks, and reporting to direct supervisors. The Foreman is a salaried position that provides opportunity to develop skills necessary for promotion within the company.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Implement, follow, enforce, and help improve ENCAP Safety Manual policies and procedures including weekly toolbox talks, enforcement of PPE use and maintenance, etc.
  2. Takes personal responsibility for the quality of the work performed under their supervision and the conduct and actions of those on their crew.
  3. Operation of standard motor vehicles and combination trailers including but not limited to: CDL required trailers, working with general laborers, communication with Foremen, Superintendents, Directors and other ENCAP staff.
  4. Perform with and manage crews engaged in ecological maintenance/restoration/construction activities including but not limited to: herbicide application, cutting/mowing, prescribed burning, seeding, installation of plant materials, trees, shrubs, erosion control materials, and other associated activities.
  5. Effectively communicate with Foremen, Superintendents, Directors, and other ENCAP staff any on-site issues, concerns, or positive feedback/outcomes that arise during daily work, including but not limited to: invasive species problems, erosion control issues, potential field changes based on subcontractors or general contractors work, hydrology or drainage issues, high quality/ endangered species, dead/missing plant material, wildlife usage, client interpretation/ observation, and/or community feedback.
  6. Controls inventory levels by conducting physical counts. Is responsible for the equipment assigned for each job; maintains, inventories, and repairs equipment as necessary. Is responsible for damage to equipment and vehicles and reports any damage to Superintendents.
  7. Maintaining a safe and clean work environment, on job sites and within the shop through control and proper use/maintenance of physical material inventories, machines, equipment, tools, and PPE.
  8. Demonstrate good organizational skills, ability to work under multiple deadlines, and flexibility to handle changing priorities.
  9. Maintain a high level of professional conduct and a positive attitude while supervising staff, and while interacting with the public or our clients.
  10. Be familiar with and practice safe and proper operation of small power equipment, such as weed eaters, chainsaws, cut saws, compactors, backpack blowers, etc.
  11. Safely and effectively operate equipment and machinery such as tractors, skid steers, mini-excavators, ATVs, etc. as required.
  12. Assist, schedule, and coordinate with Foremen, Superintendents, and Directors in loading/unloading equipment and staging or acquiring materials at the beginning and end of each work day and coordinate material delivery receipt in the field and on-sites as necessary.
  13. Read and interpret construction drawings/technical specifications/ and other project requirements in order to complete tasks on sites to quality and technical standards.
  14. Foremen will report accidents immediately and will also require his/her crew to report any damage to vehicles, machines, tools, or PPE by the end of the day. Along with completing any required documentation, the Foreman shall than notify the Superintendents and Directors via email or in writing.
  15. Understands the entirety of the specifically assigned project. Is able to review specific project budgets/hours, equipment, tools, and maintain those budgets throughout the project duration. This information will be reviewed with Superintendents/Directors as necessary throughout the course of the project.
  16. Coordinate and report directly with the Superintendents and/or Directors on a daily basis if any issues arise with scheduling or client coordination. The Superintendents and/or Directors will be available at any time to aid the Foreman if any issues arise and/or need immediate attention.
  17. Reports and communicates the ENCAP policies and procedures to Superintendents and Directors. Is responsible for implementation of these policies and procedures.
  18. Maintains appropriate professional and technical knowledge through attending professional development classes and workshops to develop their technical skills.
  19. Identify native and invasive herbaceous and woody plant species and be able to adequately demonstrate a working knowledge of restoration practices associated with the control or propagation of the desired or targeted species.
  20. Identify training needs of self and others within the crew and report to Superintendents and Directors.
  21. Other duties and responsibilities as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  1. University degree in a natural resource oriented field or an equivalent level of field and professional experience.
  2. Possession of a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and appropriate experience hauling CDL trailers OR are able to attain a CDL within 3 months of employment. All eligible candidates must turn in a certified driving record for ENCAP's insurance to review and approve.
  3. A minimum of 5 years of experience in ecological restoration, natural resources management and maintenance, or landscape/natural areas restoration/construction.
  4. Must be able to perform manual labor, operate small tools such as chainsaws, weed eaters, and back pack blowers, etc.
  5. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 Lbs. and navigate on foot rugged and uneven terrain.
  6. Must be able to follow oral and/or written instructions, work outdoors in variable and rugged conditions, and establish effective working relationships with other employees, officials and the general public.
  7. Must possess an Illinois Pesticide Applicator License in aquatics OR are able to attain such license prior to employment.
  8. Must be able to speak, understand, write, and effectively communicate in English. Bi-lingual in Spanish is desired.
  9. Completion of NWCG I-100, S-130, S-190, and S-290 wildfire training courses. Preference is working towards or having certification as an IL Certified Prescribed Burn Manager and approval as an ENCAP Burn Boss.
  10. Completion of OSHA- 30 Hour Construction Safety Course.
  11. Be able to competently identify native and invasive plant species to satisfy the requirements set forth by the Superintendents.
  12. Must be proficient in computer programs such as Outlook, Excel, and Word.
