Overview

A global nonprofit that provides trusted biological materials for science and health, ATCC is hiring a Manager, BSL-3 Operations to oversee business process development, implementation, review, and improvement to advance the management efficiency of relevant contracts. This role tracks and monitors project and workflow progress, supports the implementation of plans, projects, policies, and procedures, and works on issues of diverse scope requiring evaluation of a variety of factors.
The Manager, BSL-3 Operations follows established processes and operational policies to select methods and techniques for obtaining solutions, occasionally develops and administers schedules and performance requirements, and serves as an advisor to subordinates to meet schedules and resolve problems. This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain required federal clearances, including Department of Justice clearance, and compliance with federal regulated biological materials program requirements.

Responsibilities

    Business Process Management: Oversees business process development, implementation, review, and improvement to advance contract management efficiency and support business unit operations.
  • Resource Planning and Operations Support: Coordinates resource planning initiatives, including business process automation, implementation, and maintenance to support operational effectiveness.
  • Workflow and Contract Oversight: Tracks and monitors workflows, project progress, and subcontractor partner relations, recommending and implementing solutions to improve performance and resolve variances.
  • Financial and Data Monitoring: Oversees business and finance activities, tracks variances, and utilizes data management resources to recommend and implement improvements aligned with organizational objectives.
  • Compliance and Quality Assurance: Facilitates communication with internal departments to ensure compliance with regulations, supports audits, document control, and maintains readiness to uphold ISO certification standards.
  • Facility and Project Coordination: Functions as business unit representative for facility-related activities, including capital equipment, maintenance tracking, and project oversight to ensure contract compliance.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and 7 or more years' experience, including 2 or more years' supervisory experience or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex operational processes, prioritize competing demands, and exercise sound judgment in a regulated, quality-driven environment.
  • Experience in business process improvement, workflow tracking, and performance metric development within operations or contract-driven environments.
  • Strong project management, data analysis, and reporting skills with high attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Proven ability to collaborate across internal stakeholders, support audits, and maintain compliance with policies and documentation standards.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to provide guidance, resolve issues, and drive aligned outcomes across teams.
  • Preferred: Broad experience with handling bacteria and viruses (mycobacteria, arboviruses, influenza virus etc.)
  • Preferred: prior experience supporting BSL-3 environments and regulated biological materials programs.
  • Preferred: Experience operating in elevated biosafety and regulated laboratory environments with experience maintaining compliance with federal biosafety and biosecurity requirements.


Benefits

The expected salary range for this position is $120,000 to $140,000 annually. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience and qualifications as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. In addition to base salary, this role may be eligible for additional incentive compensation including regular merit increases and the corporate bonus program.
