Applies extensive knowledge of principles, theories, concepts and industry practices and standards in the area of developing, authoring and editing material for technical publications and/or documents in print or electronic media for Company products or processes.

Essential Functions & Key Responsibilities

  • Supports development of solutions to problems of moderate scope and complexity requiring judgment and ingenuity working within established standards and procedures relative to developing and writing technical publications for Company products. Performs work under very general supervision; work is reviewed for accuracy and adequacy.
  • Assist in defining task requirements and specifications. Performs the research and preparation of complete moderately complex technical manuals and publications. Ensures completed publications meet or exceed customer and Company specifications for technical content and accuracy.
  • Supports development of, writing of, procedure creation for material for technical manuals, instruction books, catalogs, and related technical publications in print or electronic media.
  • Observes production, developmental and experimental activities to determine operating procedures and details. Validates written procedures on hardware with the assistance of production and mock-ups.
  • Assists in interviewing production and engineering personnel and reads journals, reports, and other material to become familiar with product technologies and production methods.
  • Reviews manufacturer's and trade catalogs, drawings, and other data relative to operation, maintenance, and service of equipment.
  • Studies CAD models, sketches, drawings, parts lists, specifications, mock-ups, and product samples to integrate and delineate technology, operating procedure, and production sequence and detail.
  • Organizes material and completes writing assignments according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology.
  • Assists in selecting photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts to illustrate material. Prepares or arranges for preparation of index. Lays out material for publication.
  • Reviews published
    materials and recommends revisions or changes in scope, format, and content.
    Maintains records and files of work and revisions.

Performs other duties as required. These duties may include assignments in job classifications and departments other than the primary assignment.
Minimum Qualifications
Education Requirements

Minimum 4 Year / Bachelors Degree. Related discipline

If applicable, a combination of experience and training may be substituted for the education requirement.

Experience Requirements

7 - 10 or more year(s) Related experience and/or training ; experience with application of Air Transport Association (ATA) iSpec 2200, authoring of service bulletins, service letters and the following manual types: AMM, AIPC, SRM, OHM, PBM and CMM.

year(s) Prefer experience authoring of ATA chapters 5,24,25,26,29,30,36,51,54, 71, 73,78, 79 and 80 as well as industry standard ASD S1000D and ASD-STE100 Simplified Technical English; work with aircraft systems and structures, metal/composite repair development in an A&P Mechanic or Engineer role a plus

year(s) Experience in Quality Management Systems including processes; prefer experience with metal/composite repair development

Skills and Competencies

  • Communicate effectively using electronic media and in written and verbal forms.
  • Make telephone and direct personal contact with internal and external personnel and make formal presentations to small or large groups.
  • Competent in the use of standard software applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Must be competent in preparing SGML and XML structured documents using FrameMaker+SGML v12.0 or higher.
  • Ability and willingness to assist and transfer technical knowledge to less experienced Stakeholders.

Must be able to work in excess of eight (8) hours per day and five (5) days per week, if required. Additionally, those who work at NORDAM Repair Division must be able to ascend and descend stairs.

While performing the duties of this job, the Stakeholder is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
