As an Automation Engineer, you will provide electrical and controls design expertise and perform integration tasks that support customer projects and improve related products. You will collaborate with clients and cross-functional teams across the full project lifecycle, from proposal through commissioning, ensuring high-quality, cost-effective automation solutions.

What You Will Do

  • Collaborate with clients and application specialists during the tender/bid stage to define control equipment designs and specifications

  • Monitor and advise on costs associated with electrical designs throughout proposals and project execution

  • Program and configure PLCs and SCADA systems to meet technical, commercial, and project requirements

  • Develop control strategies and supporting documentation to define project-specific programming requirements

  • Create and manage electrical documentation, including control philosophies, design specifications, load schedules, and wiring schematics

  • Provide technical support including field service, commissioning, operator training, and warranty support

  • Maintain engineering records for drawings and associated data for future reference

  • Ensure timely submission of engineering deliverables and adherence to project schedules and budgets

  • Troubleshoot automation, integration, and network communication issues

  • Provide technical assistance and training to Sales and Product Support teams

Position Details

  • Onsite in Boise, ID

  • Travel: Frequent domestic and international travel required (up to 50%)

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Minimum of five (5) years of electrical and automation experience in a production, manufacturing, or design environment

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex technical documents

  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to apply logical and scientific thinking in varied situations

  • Ability to make decisions involving multiple variables in both standard and non-standard scenarios

  • Experience with control systems such as:

    • Rockwell (Control Logix, RS Linx, FactoryTalk Linx, BootP, Logix Echo)

    • Siemens (S7-400, TIA Portal, Simatic Manager Step 7, Proneta)

    • SCADA platforms (Wonderware InTouch, System Platform, Archestra, GE Cimplicity, WinCC, Ignition)

    • Drive software (ABB Drive Composer, Starter)

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, etc.)

  • Ability to interpret process and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), mechanical and structural drawings, and wiring schematics

Physical Demands

  • Frequently required to walk, sit, use hands and fingers, and reach with hands and arms

  • Occasionally required to stand

  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 40 pounds

Preferred Qualifications

  • Electrical & Control Engineering degree, major in Automation or Industrial Automation

  • Experience with Visual Basic, .NET Visual Studio, and Python

  • Experience with instrumentation and PID control technologies

  • Previous field experience

  • Experience mentoring or leading junior engineers or project teams

Annual or Hourly Compensation Range:

The pay range for this role is $100,000-$130,000 Many factors are taken into consideration when determining compensation, such as experience, education, training, geography, etc. We comply with all minimum wage and overtime laws.
