Airgas is hiring a Local CDL Driver in Overland Park, KS We are looking for you! We are seeking a versatile Production Operator and Backup Driver to join our warehouse team. This role is designed for a professional who thrives in a technical production environment but enjoys the variety of getting behind the wheel when needed. This is an ideal position for a driver who prefers being home daily the vast majority of the time, while building a specialized, high-value skill set in gas production.
  • Schedule: Full-time, consistent scheduling. Monday through Friday, with possible alternating weekends on call to support business needs.
  • Compensation: Pay begins at $29/hour based on experience, with eligibility for Quarterly Bonuses, Merit Increases, and a Referral Bonus program.

1. Production Operations (~80% of Role)

Most of your time will be dedicated to plant and high-pressure cylinder production.
  • Precision Filling: Fill industrial, medical, and mixed gas cylinders using specialized compression temperature/pressure methods.
  • Technical Compliance & PPE: Execute all production duties in strict accordance with DOT, OSHA, and Airgas SAFECOR policies, consistently utilizing required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for handling high-pressure and cryogenic gases.
  • Quality & Safety: Monitor gauges, scales, and equipment to ensure all cylinders meet strict safety, purity, and quality standards. Perform customer tank audits and hardware inspections.
  • Warehouse Flow: Manage cylinder inventory, safely loading/unloading trucks using forklifts and pallet jacks, and maintaining an organized, efficient workspace.
2. Local Relief Driving (~20% of Role) You will serve as our essential backup Class A driver, stepping in to cover local and regional routes when our primary driver is unavailable or when volume demands.
  • Route Delivery: Safely operate a Class A commercial motor vehicle to transport compressed gas cylinders, liquid cylinders, bulk liquids, and hard goods to regional branches and local customers.
  • Customer Site Management: Act as the professional "Face of Airgas" during deliveries, maintaining customer gas levels, exchanging cylinders, and resolving service inquiries.
  • Digital Documentation: Accurately utilize On-Board Computers to manage manifests, shipping documents, and electronic logs (ELD), providing feedback to management to improve route efficiency.
________________________ Are you a MATCH? Required Qualifications: Licensing & Experience:
  • License: Valid Class A CDL in good standing with a current Medical Examiner's Card.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of verifiable Class A driving experience within the past 5 years.
  • Endorsements: Active Tanker, Hazmat, and Airbrake endorsements are required (or the ability to obtain your Hazmat upon contingency of offer).
  • Driving Record: Clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
Physical Requirements & Environmental Adaptability:
  • Stamina & Strength: High degree of physical capability to safely handle hazardous cargo. Must be able to routinely lift, push, or pull 25-75 lbs, and up to 125+ lbs with the aid of material handling equipment.
  • Physical Maneuvering: Frequent bending, walking, standing, climbing, and kneeling to handle high-pressure hoses, secure cylinder loads, and perform tractor-trailer coupling.
  • Climate Tolerance: Ability to work outdoors in warehouse yards and customer docks in extreme regional temperatures ranging from -10F to 110F.
Technical Skills:
  • Aptitude: Ability to learn, comprehend, and follow precise pressure/temperature charts, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and standard operating procedures.
  • Reliability: A versatile, flexible mindset to seamlessly transition from warehouse production to driving as business needs shift.
  • Preferred Experience: Prior experience with tractor-tanker combinations, handling compressed gases or cryogenic liquids, and a background in customer service is highly valued.
