Job Description

The University of Missouri's Animal Modeling Core (AMC) at Discovery Ridge is seeking an experienced Senior Research Specialist to perform and support specialized laboratory and research procedures in a collaborative translational research environment.

Key responsibilities of this position include:

1. Manage rodent colonies, including animal husbandry tasks such as breeding, weaning, identification/tagging, sample collection, necropsy, and tissue harvesting.
2. Coordinate animal shipments by preparing transport crates, completing required documentation, and communicating with shipping couriers.
3. Communicate with AMC clients regarding colony updates, breeding strategies, and shipments.
4. Perform specialized procedures including drug delivery and other in vivo techniques.
5. Cross-train in and assist with genotyping and molecular biology laboratory procedures as needed.
6. Follow standard operating procedures, analyze and record test results, maintain laboratory information management system records, and ensure accurate data entry and documentation.
7. Train and/or supervise personnel in the operation of specialized equipment and execution of laboratory and research procedures, as appropriate.
8. Assist with or oversee inventory management and ordering of laboratory supplies and materials.
9. Participate in data tabulation, analysis, and reporting of project results.

Additional expectations for this position include:
1. Demonstrating professionalism, collaboration, confidentiality, integrity, and a strong commitment to customer service in all activities.
2. Providing outstanding operational and technical support to AMC clients and collaborators.

This position will also collaborate and interface closely with multiple university partners, including the Office of Animal Resources, the College of Veterinary Medicine, and other campus research units.

Shift

Monday - Friday, 8:00 - 5:00 p.m. occasional nights and weekends

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

Degree with emphasis in an appropriate area of science is necessary (i.e., Biology, Animal Science, Genetics, etc.). Experience in laboratory research, rodent handling, rodent colony management, DNA isolation, PCR, and standard molecular biology techniques is preferred.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $53,976 .00- $70,000.00 per year

Grade: GGS 9E
