REQUIREMENTS AND PREFERENCES

The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for Library Aide, Full Time. Additional vacancies may be filled from this recruitment for a different location/section within the library system. This position may be assigned to any location/section within the Libraries Division based on operational needs.

The purpose of this position is to provide responsive and timely assistance to all library customers, including processing requests for library materials, accurately collecting library fees and processing bus pass sales through adherence to training and cash handling best practices, and responding to the needs of customers. This position will also assist with program and outreach preparation and support as needed.

The position is also responsible for ensuring the availability of library materials by processing loans and returns, shelving, packing and unpacking bins for materials in transit, emptying internal and external book drops, locating and retrieving library materials to meet a variety of operational needs, and participating in team projects such as shifting the collection.

Additionally, this position is responsible for a variety of clerical functions such as: issuing, renewing, and updating library card accounts according to the library procedures and standards, reviewing identification and address verification, processing voter registrations, accurately processing library materials for addition or removal from the collection, answering and responding to phone calls, and checking emails daily.

This position will also be responsible for assisting customers with library equipment including print release and computer reservations, providing directional assistance to customers, providing information about library services and programs, and referring customers in need of professional assistance to librarians and other duties as assigned. All staff are expected to advise customers of the code of conduct as needed to support a positive library experience.

This position will also perform related work as assigned and may be assigned to work at any library location based on operational needs.

SCOPE OF WORK

General Description

Sorts, shelves, issues, and receives library materials.

Works under close supervision according to set procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.

Assists customers with services/equipment, programs and facilities; locates library materials for patrons, including books, periodicals.

Performs circulation desk duties such as checking library materials in and out, collecting fines or fees, issuing library cards, identifying service needs or locating missing materials, answering routine inquiries and referring patrons in need of professional assistance to librarians.

Maintains records of items received, stored, issued, and returned according to system used; processes new and donated materials for circulation; processes inter-library loans.

Shelves books and related library materials; packs and unpacks bins of materials arriving and being sent out to other libraries; empties book drop; charges and discharges materials; picks up materials that have been left out.

Weeds damaged materials, prepares weeded materials for deselection; enters weeding lists into website program and obtains proper signatures on each.

Processes monies received, issues receipts, and provides change in order to account for bus fares and passes; balances cash drawer in order to ensure money in drawer matches funds processed.

Creates craft samples and prepares enough materials for the program for which they are intended; manages inventory of craft and office supplies.

Performs related work as assigned.
