BMS Requirements Lead

Stellantis
United States, Michigan, Auburn Hills
Jun 16, 2026

The Battery Management Systems (BMS) Sr. Requirement Engineer will support and provide leadership for the development of BMS software for the family of next generation xEV powertrains. The selected candidate will help decompose upstream battery/BMS related requirements and then, develop and define or refine BMS functional and Safety requirements for BMS software implementation. The Sr. BMS Requirements Engineer will work with the Program management, Propulsion Controls System, Battery system architects, BMS SW product release engineers (SW DREs), BMS Controls, and functional safety and BMS Diagnostic teams to define new BMS functional requirements and solve BMS software application issues during product development and serial life phases.

Job responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Develop and globally harmonize BMS functional requirements for electrified applications (BEV,PHEV,HEV,MHEV) - specific to high voltage, safety and diagnostic, and battery estimation control functions
  • Develop, maintain and release harmonize BMS software functional requirements (core and application) per program SW release milestones
  • Ensure compliance to corporate standards and global regulations.
  • Work cross functionally to verify functional safety and battery software functional requirements meet all customer needs
  • Support software DREs in root cause analysis of issues and documenting lessons learned/best practices as needed
  • Lead or support BMS requirement engineers in functional requirements management and traceability duties and processes
  • Develop and maintain BMS software functional requirement DFMEA
  • Lead and work cross functionally to decomposed upstream Battery/BMS related requirements and develop, define and release BMS software functional requirement to controls team to implement. Inputs can come from BMS hardware design, EE architecture, regulatory, Functional safety (FuSa) and PRS diagnostic and powertrain controls interface and allocation to name a few.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to other BMS requirement engineers along with supporting their development and training.
  • Collaborate with other battery COE specialists (cell, BMS HW, system, Controls and electrical) and vehicle teams to develop a robust software design for high performance battery systems.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Applied Physics, Materials Science, or related Engineering field
  • Minimum 8 years of engineering experience in vehicle, propulsion system or functional Safety requirement decomposition for Battery or BMS level functional requirements for automotive and related industries
  • Experience with electronic systems
  • Experience with development and testing of control system software for hybrid and/or electric vehicles
