Job Summary
F3EA is seeking a qualified Electro-Technical Officer (ETO) to support maritime operations aboard operational vessels supporting dynamic mission requirements. This position is responsible for ensuring the safe operation, maintenance, repair, and readiness of vessel electrical systems, electronic equipment, emergency power systems, and associated technical infrastructure.
The Electro-Technical Officer serves as the primary onboard electrical systems subject matter expert and supports the Chief Engineer in maintaining vessel operational readiness. Personnel in this role are expected to uphold F3EA operational standards while reinforcing a culture of professionalism, accountability, safety, and mission execution.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and support vessel electrical systems, equipment, and associated infrastructure
- Ensure electrical systems are operated and maintained in accordance with company procedures and manufacturer recommendations
- Maintain emergency lighting systems, batteries, emergency generators, and backup electrical systems in operational condition
- Conduct preventative and corrective maintenance actions in accordance with the Planned Maintenance System (PMS)
- Manage electrical spare parts inventories, consumables, and operational stock levels
- Coordinate electrical troubleshooting and repair efforts with the Chief Engineer and engineering department personnel
- Ensure compliance with maritime electrical safety requirements and safe work practices
- Support implementation of the vessel Safety Management System (SMS) and operational procedures
- Complete required operational documentation, checklists, maintenance records, and risk assessments
- Participate in emergency drills, safety meetings, and vessel readiness activities
- Exercise supervisory authority over personnel conducting work on electrical systems and equipment
- Identify and report hazards, equipment deficiencies, and unsafe conditions
- Coordinate effectively with deck, engineering, survey personnel, clients, and supporting personnel
- Support operational risk mitigation and continuous improvement initiatives
- Perform additional duties as assigned in support of vessel operations and mission requirements
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Provides technical oversight and supervisory authority over personnel conducting work on electrical systems, machinery, and associated equipment.
Required Qualifications and Education
- Valid U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) and/or Electro-Technical Officer certification appropriate to vessel requirements
- Valid STCW endorsements and required maritime certifications
- Experience supporting electrical systems aboard operational vessels
- Knowledge of marine electrical systems, emergency power systems, automation systems, and associated equipment
- Experience troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining vessel electrical and electronic systems
- Knowledge of maritime safety procedures and electrical safe work practices
- Ability to work rotational schedules in maritime environments
- Strong communication, organizational, and technical problem-solving skills
- U.S. citizenship required
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense security clearance
Preferred Qualifications and Education
- Experience supporting government maritime operations or defense-related missions
- Prior experience aboard offshore support vessels, research vessels, or similarly complex platforms
- Experience operating in high operational tempo maritime environments
- Prior military or government-contracted maritime experience
- Experience supporting vessel automation, communications, or mission systems
Work Authorization/Security Clearance Requirements
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense security clearance.
Physical Demands/Work Environment
- Operational maritime and shipboard environment
- Exposure to varying weather conditions, machinery spaces, electrical equipment, and operational vessel activities
- Ability to climb ladders, access confined spaces, and work in physically demanding environments
- Extended periods troubleshooting and conducting maintenance on vessel systems
- Ability to support rotational or extended underway operations as required
