Job Summary
F3EA is seeking qualified Crane Operators / Able Seamen (AB) to support maritime operations aboard operational vessels supporting dynamic mission requirements. This position is responsible for safely conducting lifting operations, supporting deck operations, maintaining crane systems and lifting equipment, and ensuring compliance with vessel safety and operational procedures.
The Crane Operator / AB serves as a key member of the deck crew and supports safe and efficient vessel operations through disciplined execution, technical proficiency, and effective teamwork. Personnel in this role are expected to uphold F3EA operational standards while reinforcing a culture of professionalism, accountability, safety, and mission execution.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Conduct crane and lifting operations in accordance with vessel procedures and operational requirements
- Perform duties as lifting appliance operator, deck operator, signaler, slinger, and rigger as required
- Inspect, maintain, and operate vessel cranes and lifting equipment in accordance with Planned Maintenance System (PMS) requirements
- Maintain crane inspection records, maintenance logs, and operational documentation
- Support deck operations, cargo handling, and vessel operational activities as assigned
- Ensure compliance with crane and lifting procedures, maritime safety regulations, and safe work practices
- Maintain accountability and control of loose lifting gear and associated equipment
- Participate in planning and execution of lifting operations and deck evolutions
- Support helideck operations and associated deck support activities as required
- Ensure shift turnover and operational overlap information is properly communicated
- Participate in emergency drills, safety meetings, and vessel readiness activities
- Identify and report unsafe conditions, equipment deficiencies, hazards, and near misses
- Exercise Stop Work Authority when unsafe lifting or operational conditions exist
- Support implementation of the vessel Safety Management System (SMS) and operational procedures
- Promote effective teamwork and coordination between vessel departments
- Perform additional duties as assigned in support of vessel operations and mission requirements
Supervisory Responsibilities
- May provide task-level oversight and coordination of deck personnel during lifting operations and deck evolutions.
Required Qualifications and Education
- Valid U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) appropriate for vessel requirements
- Valid STCW endorsements and required maritime certifications
- Experience conducting crane and lifting operations aboard operational vessels
- Knowledge of maritime crane operations, rigging practices, and lifting safety procedures
- Experience supporting deck operations and vessel maintenance activities
- Ability to work rotational schedules in maritime environments
- Strong communication, situational awareness, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary maritime team
- U.S. citizenship required
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense security clearance
Preferred Qualifications and Education
- Prior offshore crane operator certification or related lifting qualifications
- Experience supporting government maritime operations or defense-related missions
- Prior military or government-contracted maritime experience
- Experience operating in high operational tempo maritime environments
- Experience supporting helideck or aviation-related deck operations
Work Authorization/Security Clearance Requirements
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense security clearance.
Physical Demands/Work Environment
- Operational maritime and shipboard environment
- Exposure to varying weather conditions, vessel motion, crane operations, and deck activities
- Ability to lift, move, rig, and secure operational equipment and materials
- Extended periods standing, climbing ladders, and performing physically demanding work
- Ability to support rotational or extended underway operations as required
