University Custodian (2nd Shift)

About the role

Join our Facilities Management team as a University Custodian (2nd Shift). In this role, you will do more than just maintain our physical campus; you will play a vital part in Bethel's mission to educate and equip students in a Christ-centered community. As a member of our staff, you serve as a minister of the gospel by fostering a clean, safe, and welcoming environment where students can grow.

Reporting to the 2nd Shift Supervisor, you will work alongside a dedicated team to ensure our facilities reflect our commitment to excellence. A key component of this role involves leadership and coordination; you will provide work direction to both student employees and contracted workers, helping them complete their tasks effectively.

This is a 40 hour per week, 12 months per year position. Typical working hours are on 2nd Shift (4:00 pm - 12:00

am), Monday - Friday.

Starting salary is $20.00/hour - $22.00/hour, based on experience.

What you'll do

Clean and maintain assigned areas - 50%
  • Clean and service lavatories.
  • Clean and sanitize surfaces.
  • Vacuum carpets and rugs.
  • Collect loose debris and deposit it in the appropriate receptacles.
  • Remove and replace full receptacle liners and place full liners in the appropriate collection area.
  • Clean receptacles when necessary.
  • Mop and sweep floors, stairs, and other hard surfaces.


Completion of work orders, radio calls, and projects as assigned by the shift supervisor - 35%
  • Responds to work orders and radio calls.
  • Assist with summer conferences set up and take down.
  • Assist conference and events services with event setup and take-down.


Provide work direction and assist student workers and contracted workers with their assigned tasks - 15%

Qualifications

Required Education

High school diploma or equivalent

Preferred Education

Some post-secondary classwork

Required Experience

No professional experience is required.

Preferred Experience

2+ years of custodial experience.

This job requires working with and around chemicals and complies with environmental health and safety requirements

and procedures as outlined by University and State policies and directives.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully

perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to

talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The job

requires extended periods of traversing the Bethel Campus on a regular basis. Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Reasonable

Expected Hours of Work:

This is a 40 hour per week, 12 months per year position. Typical working hours are on 2nd Shift (4:00 pm - 12:00

am), Monday - Friday. Some overtime may be required. This position is considered essential personnel and

must be available outside of normal working hours if needed to support contingency operations such as snow

removal or support of special events.
