Position description

The Department of Developmental and Cell Biology at the University of California, Irvine, invites applications for the position of Assistant Researcher. This is a non-tenure-track, full-time research position supported by external grant funding. Initial appointments are for one year and renewal is based on job performance and availability of support. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and years of experience.

The successful candidate is expected to independently develop and secure external research funding aligned with the scientific goals and longterm direction of the NIHfunded project on AIAssisted Laser Capture Microdissection (AILCM) spatial transcriptomics. Sustained effort toward obtaining extramural support is a core expectation of this position and will contribute to the longterm sustainability and growth of the research program. The role emphasizes scholarly productivity, technical expertise, and leadership in research activities.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Conduct independent and collaborative research, including experimental design, execution, and data analysis
  • Lead and contribute to research projects, including development of novel methodologies and analytical approaches
  • Publish research findings in peer-reviewed scientific journals
  • Present research results at national/international scientific conferences
  • Independently develop and obtain external research funding
  • Maintain compliance with institutional, state, and federal research regulations
  • Provide scientific guidance and mentorship to graduate students, postdoctoral scholars, and/or research staff as appropriate
  • Perform other research-related duties as assigned


Qualifications:



  • Ph.D. (or equivalent doctoral degree) in biology, chemistry, biophysics, bioengineering, or a closely related discipline
  • Demonstrated record of research productivity, including peer-reviewed publications
  • Strong background in experimental design, data analysis, and interpretation
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary research environment
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
