Job Description

The Vehicle Safety Program Performance Lead (PPL - Safety) is responsible for managing their assigned vehicle programs to ensure all identified safety functional objectives are achieved on time and within the financial target.


They must also ensure the program financials, technical content and required resources are aligned with the program technical safety scope in order to achieve all approved regulatory & 3rd party safety ratings targets.



Key Responsibilities:



  • Establish, justify, and manage safety financial targets by leading collaboration activities with all associated vehicle safety teams to identify direct & indirect material costs including projected labor hours, vehicle quantities and test components are captured to align with the identified component, sled and vehicle tests
  • Manage all safety related development activities to ensure all functional objectives and safety related KPIs are being achieved at each program milestone throughout the development and validation process
  • Ownership of all program safety related risk mitigation strategies and leads the facilitation of cross-functional collaborative discussions to identify root cause, design solutions and validation plans which include cost and timing impacts to the program
  • Communicate the program safety status, all pending high risk technical issues and related mitigation strategies at the relevant program leadership forums including Vehicle Integration Team (VIT), Umbrella, Stakeholders and other leadership forums, as required


The 'PPL - Safety' must possess a strong technical acumen, exceptional communication/organizational skills and demonstrate the ability to lead cross-functional working teams through issue identification and resolution.

Requirements

Basic Qualifications:



  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering or related field
  • A minimum of 8 years of engineering experience
  • A minimum of 2 years of crash/safety related experience is required, specifically in two or more of the following areas:

    • Design of vehicle structures for impact performance using computer aided engineering (CAE)
    • Restraint system or component development
    • Sled and/or full vehicle testing
    • Program Management or Project Chief experience on safety related commodities


  • Knowledge of global vehicle safety regulations and consumer ratings requirements
  • Understanding of the vehicle development process through applied professional or leadership work experience
  • Strong ability and skills in root causing and problem solving
  • Familiarity with DYNA3D, CATIA/NX/TC, Hypergraph, data/film analysis and advanced simulation techniques


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited or equivalent program
  • Proven track record in leading teams to meet planned program functional objectives and targets
  • Well familiar with cross-functional interaction and conflict among key functional attributes - NVH, Impact, and Durability
  • Experience in full vehicle impact testing and/or data analysis
  • Excellent leadership and communication abilities (written, verbal, and presentation)
  • Non-Linear Finite Element Analysis experience
