The Research Engineer is a fully onsite, hands-on position supporting the mission of the Athinoula A. Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging, a globally recognized leader in biomedical imaging, translational research, and technology development. The Center develops and applies advanced imaging technologies-including MRI, MRS, MEG, EEG, PET, diffuse optical imaging, molecular imaging, and transcranial magnetic stimulation-to advance understanding of human biology, brain function, and disease.

Under the direction of the Director of the Human Imaging Core and individual principal investigators at the Martinos Center, the Research Engineer will play a key role in advancing MRI hardware through the design, construction, and maintenance of systems operating at 3T and 7T field strengths, including customized RF coils and related instrumentation. This role integrates mechanical and electrical
engineering to develop hardware that enhances imaging sensitivity, speed, and overall performance. While much of academic MRI research emphasizes acquisition and reconstruction software, continued innovation in hardware remains essential to expanding imaging capabilities.

The Research Engineer will work closely with investigators at Mass General Brigham, MIT, and Harvard to provide hands-on engineering support, translating research needs into tailored hardware solutions. This role offers a unique opportunity to apply engineering expertise to advance medical imaging at a world-leading biomedical imaging center and to directly impact scientific discovery through the development of advanced imaging technology.
