THE POSITION

The Department of Transportation is seeking an experienced, highly motivated Purchasing Agent who is proactive, independent, and able to anticipate problems, identify solutions, and escalate issues when necessary. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports procurement activities that help District 12 secure needed goods and services in a timely and efficient way. It requires clear communication, careful coordination, and organized work. As a Purchasing Agent, you will perform the following duties:

  • Contract Preparation: Prepare contracts and purchase orders and ensure approvals occur before materials or services are received
  • Vendor Coordination: Work with vendors and staff to evaluate proposals, solve issues, and support sourcing strategies
  • Compliance Monitoring: Review procurement documents and activities to ensure alignment with Commonwealth and Department rules
  • Record Management: Maintain accurate records in procurement systems and monitor funding, timelines, and quantities
  • Problem Resolution: Address discrepancies, assist with blocked invoices, and help prevent delays in vendor payments
  • Communication Support: Collaborate with district and county staff to identify purchasing needs and share procurement updates

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Uniontown. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Three years of experience in purchasing work involving contact with vendors in the procurement of a variety of supplies, materials, equipment, or services; or
  • Three years of experience in requisitioning, receiving, storing, distributing, and maintaining inventory of goods; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training. Post-high school education may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for purchasing or stores experience to a maximum of two years.
