The organizational unit is the Marsico Lung Institute/Cystic Fibrosis Center ( MLI/CF Center) at UNC AT Chapel Hill. The position itself is in the Chen lab at MLI/CF Center. The Chen lab use genetic approaches to conduct mechanistic studies relevant to the pathogenesis of chronic pulmonary diseases characterized by airway infection, inflammation, and overproduction of mucus, such as cystic fibrosis (CF), idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis ( IPF), and the COVID-19, utilizing in vivo and in vitro culture models relevant to each disease. Specifically, we use both transgenic/knockout mouse models, primary normal and diseased human bronchial epithelial cells coupled with CRISPR-Cas9 technology to address the key roles of transcription factors in respiratory epithelial cells that regulate secretions of mucus and ion/water, mucociliary clearance and innate host defense that are highly relevant to pathogenesis of chronic muco-obstructive lung diseases and SARS-CoV-2 infection.

The Research Technician will conduct research on the role of cytokine IL22 and transcription factor STAT3 in regulation small airway epithelium repair in cystic fibrosis airways. The role will focus on gene and protein expression analysis and bioinformatic data analysis.

Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.

Relevant lab experience preferred.
