Job Description: POSITION SUMMARY The Welder/Fabricator is responsible for welding, repairing and light fabrication of specialty tools, structures, brackets and attachments for Veit's construction heavy equipment and light vehicles. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES * Identifies the structural failure area of the damaged equipment and determines an effective repair method. * Performs necessary welding procedures, using current repair methods and supplies. * Repairs and builds-up of construction demolition and foundation tooling. * Completes welding and fabricating specific jobsite project needs. * Repairs various equipment attachments such as demolition excavator buckets * Fabricates material projects by creating, designing, welding and materializing the project specific items using engineering knowledge, fabrication experience, safety and job knowledge. * Required to work independently at times, assuring repair decisions are made utilizing appropriate experience and tasks are completed in a timely manner. * Works independently and with other mechanics to complete repairs on heavy equipment as needed. * Other duties as assigned by management. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES This is a union based role. Additionally, we provide profit sharing, tuition reimbursement, and an employee assistance program. * Two years of vocational schooling preferred; plus, three to five years of experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. * Experience in heavy construction equipment maintenance environment. * Ability to meet attendance expectations with on-time dependability and consistency as required by management and/or project requirements. * Ability to exercise independent judgement. * Ability to follow all safety rules and regulations. * Ability to read and analyze project drawings to fabricate projects effectively and safely. * Must be able to effectively communicate with internal coworkers, management of all levels, and customers/clients. * Strong organizational, time management and communication skills. * Ability to read, analyze, and interpret equipment manuals, technical procedures, and parts diagrams. OTHER * Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test. * Must satisfactorily pass a pre-employment welding test. * Must be able to work 8 to 12-hour workdays, Monday through Friday, with occasional weekends. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by any employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. WORK ENVIRONMENT Employee is exposed to environmental conditions, working near machines and loud noises associated with mechanical shop environments.
