Researcher 5 in the lab of Dr Laura Ewell

This position is in a laboratory involved in understanding neuronal circuits in health and disease, with a focus on epilepsy and memory using electrophysiology, calcium imaging, and mouse models.

70% Data analysis
The primary role of this position will be to perform large scale analysis of existing data sets in the laboratory. The researcher will be writing new analysis code, interpreting data, and presenting experimental results. Design, plan, oversee, implement, and evaluate complex, multi-faceted research projects based on in-depth subject matter knowledge in consultation with the PI, collaborators, and other lab members. Formulate and implement short-and long-range research goals. Develop and optimize research protocols. Conduct and train others in testing and collecting behavior/electrophysiology data and neuroimaging data. Maintain detailed records of all experiments and procedures in lab notebooks as well as in online databases and project management tools. Analyze collected data, review relevant scientific literature, and summarize findings periodically in meetings and in writing, including manuscripts for publication.

30% Prepare Manuscripts and Grants
The candidate will produce and prepare publication-ready figures, and submit manuscripts for publication. The candidate will present publications at national conference representing UMN. The candidate will prepare and submit grants to fund UMN research.

Qualifications

Required: PhD in Neuroscience or related field (or expected by start date) with one or more years of research training. Experience with neurophysiology, including in vivo rodent experiments or strong other experience paired with a strong desire and ability to learn new techniques. Experience with analysis of in vivo data sets, proficiency in Matlab, and statistical analysis.

Preferred: Experience with grant and research manuscript writing, including several first author publications.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $70,000 - $75,000 annually; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 75% Appointment, remote work
