Primary Purpose

Provides operational leadership through initiating, planning, and managing the work performed by project teams and operational areas assigned. Oversees daily patient flow in the HaH service department to support patient throughput in acute care and post-acute settings. Supports the work of operations in ensuring all services meet the mission, vision, goals, and objectives of Parkland, the needs of the community, and all pertinent regulatory and accreditation requirements. Recommends, facilitates projects, researches, analyzes, and monitors processes related to HaH operations. Provides leadership support to assigned areas.

Minimum Specifications

Education
  • Must have a Master's degree or above in Nursing, Business Administration, Health Administration or related field.
  • Prefer advanced clinical degree (e.g., RN, LCSW, PharmD)

Experience
  • Must have eight (8) years of experience.
  • Must have at least three (3) years of managerial or operational experience.
  • Prefer three (3) years of experience working in an urban healthcare system.

Equivalent Education and/or Experience
  • May have an equivalent combination of education and experience to substitute for the experience requirement.

Skills or Special Abilities
  • Must demonstrate a strong customer service orientation.
  • Must demonstrate strong interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills in working with a diverse population of physicians, nurses, and support staff.
  • Understands practical management approaches such as management of workflow, quality review, coaching, and performance management.
  • Must be detail oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • May have budget accountability for area of responsibility or manage elements of the budget.
  • Proficient in developing and sustaining collaborative partnerships, through effective community engagement strategies.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of personal computer operations and the ability to use word processing, spreadsheet, and database software in a Windows environment.

Responsibilities
  • Oversees HaH department operations in review of processes related to throughput optimization, ED/OBS avoidance, and decreasing LOS for the hospital. Provides leadership to operational teams through recommending and managing patient flow.
  • Develops, implements, monitors, and revises HaH-related strategies to meet HaH-specific initiatives, annual goals and objectives that support the missions, and objectives of Parkland.
  • Works in conjunction with Medical Affairs Leadership and HaH leadership in daily operations.
  • Partners with other disciplines as well as outside community partners to represent the position of Parkland Hospital's HaH needs and best approach to management.
  • Responsible for trending, reporting and recommending tactics to improve patient satisfaction. Works in conjunction with nursing and other disciplines to implement patient satisfaction initiatives throughout HaH services.
  • Provides team leadership to assigned cross functional teams through developmental opportunities, coaching, and training. Has the ability to communicate effectively with all workforce members, leaders, and executives.
  • Acts as a resource for leadership, patients/families, administration, other departments, and employees. Creates and provides reports for executive level review. Researches information, delegates tasks in response to directive in a timely and appropriate manner, and demonstrates responsiveness to innovation and cross-discipline expertise.
  • Applies Parkland's project management direction, methodology, and processes to assigned projects in order to achieve organizational goals. Implements and facilitates the process of developing project objectives and deliverables. Utilizes lean techniques in process improvement.
  • Creates and monitors strategies related to current initiatives to ensure operations as necessary to implement the goals and objectives that have been established.
  • Works with assigned leadership staff, internal/external customers, and vendors to project, identify, obtain, and resolve conflicting demands on resources.
  • Establishes and maintains collaborative, responsive customer service with internal and external customers by providing continuous follow-through and communication regarding projects and priorities.
  • Evaluates, recommends, and implements changes to project management processes, methods, and tools to improve effectiveness, productivity, and efficiency that improve the overall goals of the services.

Job Accountabilities
  • Identifies and analyzes the design of jobs, work processes, work flows, etc. for the area and implements appropriate changes to improve effectiveness, productivity, and efficiency that support the overall goals of the department and Parkland.
  • Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the field by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, actively participating in professional organizations, and/or maintaining certification or licensure. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices.
  • Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws and guidelines that impact the area. Develops effective internal controls designed to promote adherence with applicable laws, accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as needed to ensure proper understanding.
  • Develops and monitors annual budgets that ensure the department has the necessary funds to carry out the goals and objectives that have been established for the department.
  • Develops, implements, monitors, and revises annual goals and objectives for the department that support the missions and objectives of Parkland.
  • Selects, trains, schedules, motivates, supervises, and evaluates employees making recommendations for disciplinary actions up to and including termination, to ensure maximum utilization of individual and group capabilities. Ensures that assigned employees receive opportunities to further their knowledge.
