Inova Alexandria Hospital - Operating Room is looking for a dedicated Perioperative Clerical Coordinator to join our Team. This role will be Full-Time, Monday - Friday evening shift from 2:00p.m. - 10:00 p.m.

Perioperative Clerical Coordinator Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for coordinating the daily operating room schedules to facilitate maximum utilization, efficiency and minimum procedure related and bed placement problems.

  • Ensures that daily charges are processed by following department guidelines and ensures that all Perioperative documentation is complete and accurate.

  • Performs a variety of administrative and clerical activities to support efficient department operations.

  • Reviews scheduled cases daily and arranges for all reasonably anticipated requirements by coordinating with Radiology, Laboratory, Patient Units, Bed Placement, Materials Management and other departments as appropriate.

  • Gathers all components of the medical record and arranges it in the correct order in patient charts and department records; Ensures that each patient entering the Operating Room has an available medical record.

  • Schedules added cases by ensuring that all appropriate documentation is complete and that all relevant staff is notified; Documents all schedule changes per department guidelines; Reconciles the record with submitted charges, verifying inconsistencies with appropriate staff and making changes in the system as necessary.

  • Assists with the maintenance of Perioperative databases, orders clinical/office supplies for Operating Room and collaborates with the Unit Supervisor and Operating Room Manager.

  • Monitors operating room schedules to identify potential changes and take appropriate actions (i.e. notifies OR charge nurse and/or call supervisor for bed placement) to minimize problems, conflicts and/or delays that will impact the OR.

  • Ensures that Phase I and Phase II packets are available and have the correct patient identification on them.

  • Responds promptly to ensure the provision of unanticipated requirements such as blood, X-ray, laboratory, supplies and other services as required.

  • Ensures that all relevant staff (including the charge nurse) and departments are informed promptly of changes, delays and/or specific patient needs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience: 1 year of relevant experience
  • Education: High School diploma or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior Healthcare experience
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Experience with surgical scheduling
  • Bilingual - Spanish or other languages
  • Proficiency in Epic
