Job Overview

The Senior Manager, Creative Director is a key steward of the Macy's brand voice-shaping how our customers see, feel, and engage with the brand. A conceptual leader and champion of brand identity, this role drives big ideas that position Macy's as the authority on affordable fashion. This leader oversees the voice and creative expression of advertising campaigns, customer onboarding and loyalty communications, and enterprise/private brand packaging. Through bold conceptual thinking, sharp editorial direction, and end-to-end creative execution, the Senior Manager brings Macy's purpose to life in ways that are relevant, fashion-forward, and impactful across both emerging and traditional media.

What You Will Do

Brand Voice & Communication Strategy


  • Define and evolve the editorial voice that represents Macy's fashion authority.


  • Set communication strategies that support business objectives, drive sales, and sharpen brand positioning.


  • Lead integrated campaign voice development-from seasonal fashion stories to evergreen brand programs-balancing inspiration with clarity, urgency, and strong reasons to shop.

Campaign Concepting & Creative Direction


  • Lead big-idea concept development for seasonal and evergreen campaigns.


  • Build moodboards, visual territories, and creative narratives rooted in trend awareness and brand DNA.


  • Art direct photo/video shoots, ensuring elevated fashion-focused visuals-styling, framing, lighting, composition, and talent direction.


  • Partner with design and cross-functional teams to ensure consistency, innovation, and breakthrough creative across all channels.


Copy, Content, and Multi-Channel Execution


  • Oversee the full creative lifecycle-from ideation through final asset delivery, including design development, retouch direction, and production-ready artwork.


  • Drive collaboration between copy, design, and production teams to deliver high-quality, consistent, and culturally relevant communications across digital, social, traditional, and emerging media.

Cross-FOB Packaging & Design


  • Develop packaging concepts that scale across private brand categories (apparel, accessories, jewelry, home decor, gifting).


  • Apply strong typography and layout systems to improve shelf impact and reinforce brand recognition.


  • Collaborate with packaging engineers and production partners on dielines, materials, print finishes, and global category needs.


  • Maintain visual consistency while solving for a range of product and partner requirements.

Leadership & Collaboration


  • Lead, inspire, and develop a high-performing creative team; cultivate talent and build a clear succession pipeline.


  • Provide strong creative direction and meaningful feedback aligned to business goals.


  • Present and sell creative work to senior leaders by clearly articulating strategy, rationale, and the customer impact.


  • Foster a culture of respect, collaboration, and inclusion to strengthen relationships across teams and create authentic, culturally relevant work.

Brand Voice Leadership

Ability to define, protect, and evolve a distinctive editorial voice that reinforces Macy's position as an affordable fashion authority.

Strategic Communication

Expertise in developing communication strategies that support business goals, strengthen credibility, and drive customer engagement.

Fashion Editorial Expertise

Proven ability to craft compelling fashion narratives for campaigns, packaging, and multi-channel brand storytelling.

Multi-Channel Creative Development

Experience creating copy and content strategies for digital, social, traditional media, and emerging platforms.

Creative & Art Direction

Strength in guiding conceptual development, providing actionable feedback, and ensuring alignment with brand and marketing objectives.

Collaboration & Influence

Ability to build strong partnerships across creative, marketing, eCommerce, merchandising, production, and agency partners; adept at influencing senior leaders.

Leadership & Talent Development

Track record of mentoring, developing, and retaining creative talent while fostering a positive, inclusive team culture.

Storytelling & Presentation

Exceptional narrative, communication, and presentation skills with the ability to sell creative ideas and gain buy-in at all levels.

Analytical & Decision-Making Skills

Strong critical thinking and problem-solving capability to balance creative ambition with business needs.

Industry & Competitive Awareness

Deep understanding of retail, fashion, cultural, and media trends with the ability to translate insights into resonant creative work.

Results Orientation

Demonstrated ownership mentality and ability to deliver high-quality work in fast-paced, evolving environments.

Technical Proficiency

Fluency in Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office; comfort directing production-ready assets across formats.

Who You Are


  • Candidates with a bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in a related field are encouraged to apply.


  • 10+ years of experience in advertising copywriting; retail experience required. 7+ years of management experience preferred.


  • Regularly required to sit, talk, hear; use hands/fingers to touch, handle, and feel. Occasionally required to move about the workplace and reach with hands and arms. Requires close vision.


  • Able to work a flexible schedule based on department and company needs.
