What to Expect

The Staff Specialist, Medium/High-Voltage Safety will strengthen EHS capacity within North America, focusing on Tesla's energy storage, balance of plant, and charging infrastructure. This role ensures safety is embedded from design through production, commissioning, and field operations for medium-voltage (MV) and high-voltage (HV) systems.

You will serve as a technical safety specialist on medium- and high-voltage safety, providing expert EHS guidance to engineering, manufacturing, operations, and service teams to support our current fleet and future platforms while ensuring a safe system of work. Up to 40% domestic travel is expected.

What You'll Do
  • Enhance and continuously improve MV/HV safety protocols and a regionally aligned framework for North American energy storage, balance of plant, and charging networks, ensuring compliance with OSHA, NFPA 70E, IEC, and internal standards
  • Partner with engineering, product design, field service, and operations teams to embed safety into product development, deployment, and long-term maintenance activities
  • Apply first-principles thinking to develop innovative MV/HV safety practices that address the evolving risk profile of our product lines, leveraging Tesla's vertical integration to deploy best-in-class systems
  • Develop and deliver targeted training for EHS, engineering, and operations teams on lockout/tagout (LOTO), arc flash mitigation, safe work practices, and HV risk management
  • Lead or support investigations of MV/HV safety events and near misses, perform root cause analysis, and drive preventive actions with clear recommendations to stakeholders
  • Build and maintain a centralized HV safety knowledge base to scale EHS capability and reduce dependency on external resources
  • Stay current on advancements in MV/HV safety, energy storage technologies, and regulatory changes to keep Tesla at the forefront of innovation

What You'll Bring
  • Degree in Occupational safety, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in MV/HV electrical safety, preferably within energy storage, renewable energy, or EV charging infrastructure, with at least 3 years of hands-on support for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and MV/HV power distribution
  • Deep knowledge of MV/HV electrical systems, including transformers, switchgear, and inverters. Familiarity with energy storage systems, microgrids, and EV charging infrastructure
  • Extensive understanding of electrical safety standards (e.g., NFPA 70E, IEEE, IEC, OSHA) and experience implementing safety programs in high-voltage environments, including arc flash analysis, grounding, and shock hazard mitigation
  • Proven ability to provide expert EHS advice, deliver training, and influence cross-functional teams in fast-paced environments
  • Strong analytical and communication skills with the ability to document processes, present findings, and build organizational capability in a niche technical domain
  • Demonstrated success operating in dynamic settings with the capacity to manage multiple priorities and adapt to evolving technologies and regulatory requirements
