Overview The Steam Projects Electrical Team, a division within the Steam & Gas Engineering Department, is seeking to hire a Junior Designer. The successful candidate will participate in all phases of the design process, from initial concept through to completion of final plans. Responsibilities include coordinating design activities with multidisciplinary designers, engineers, and station personnel, as well as providing occasional field support for design as required. The ideal candidate is dedicated, self-motivated, and works well independently or in a team. They should manage multiple assignments, meet deadlines, and possess strong written and verbal communication skills for professional interactions at all levels. Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities
- The Jr Designer will be involved in all stages of the design process, from conception to finished plans.
- Ideal candidate must be dedicated, self-motivated, able to work independently and on teams.
- Responsible for handling multiple assignments and meeting deadlines.
- Proficient in AutoCAD 2D or Micro Station for drafting and design.
- Working knowledge of mechanical, civil, electrical, structural, and architectural design.
- Familiarity with construction, engineering, and design specifications.
- Read and interpret design, piping and building codes, and regulations. Produce quality design drawings and supporting documentation.
- Coordinate design work with other design disciplines, engineers, and station personnel.
- Provide design field support as needed
- Demonstrate proficiency in technical calculations and possess comprehensive knowledge and experience in the design of electrical power systems and related equipment.
Qualifications
Required Education/Experience
- High School Diploma/GED and 2 years Of equivalent and relevant electrical design work experience or
- Associate's Degree In Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology
Relevant Work Experience
- Knowledge of 3D design and the ability to utilize current 3D software applications. Required
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office software. Required
- Working knowledge of drafting standards, design drawing preparation of general arrangements, sections, elevations, installation details, electrical wiring drawings and schematics. Required
- Familiarity with power, control wiring and raceway system concepts, design and installations. Required
- Working knowledge of building codes, manufacturer's equipment drawings and material specifications. Required
- Experience with multi-disciplinary drawings such as civil/structural, electrical, HVAC, etc. Required
- Ideal candidate must possess strong written and verbal communication skills. Required
Licenses and Certifications
- Driver's License Required
Additional Physical Demands
- The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Able to work in all weather conditions including inclement weather and adverse conditions (i.e., excessive heat, cold, noise, confined spaces, heights).
- Able to work in both an office and field settings.
- Able to walk extensively, climb ladders/stairs, bend, kneel, and/or stoop.
- Able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment such as safety shoes, hard hat, gloves, fire retardant clothing, respirator, etc...
- Able to work extended hours, including weekends and holidays as conditions required.
- Able to travel throughout the company service territory as needed.
