Job Description

We have an opening for a Tax Accountant to work in a dynamic and fast paced environment. You will be responsible for the preparation, analysis, maintenance, and review of complex institutional accounting, financial, and tax reporting information. This position requires a strong foundation in accounting principles along with knowledge of disbursements processing. This position is in the Disbursements Division of the Finance Department within the Office of the Chief Financial Officer (OCFO).

This position may offer a hybrid schedule, which includes the flexibility to work from home one or more days per week, after a probationary period. The specifics of the hybrid schedule, including the exact number of days required in the office and virtual work options may vary based on the needs of the team and the organization.

You will

  • Prepare, reconcile, and file federal and state tax reporting including 1099, 1042, 592, and sales and use tax filings while ensuring compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Analyze and reconcile tax-related general ledger accounts, research discrepancies, and prepare journal entries to ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Serve as a tax subject matter resource to Accounts Payable, Procurement, and Travel Accounting on non-employee and supplier tax compliance requirements and appropriate accounting treatment for complex transactions.
  • Administer relocation and change-of-station tax equalization processes, including tax gross-up calculations and coordination with payroll and relocation vendors.
  • Maintain supplier tax configurations within the Oracle Accounts Payable system to ensure accurate tax reporting and compliance.
  • Research and interpret federal and state tax regulations and recommend solutions to complex tax compliance issues.
  • Respond to complex internal and external audit requests and coordinate with work groups and tax authorities, including the IRS and state agencies.
  • Lead or participate in projects to improve tax reporting processes, documentation, and financial system functionality.
  • Collaborate with finance and operational teams to identify and resolve tax reporting discrepancies and improve compliance processes.
  • Prepare financial documentation, tax analyses, and reports for management review.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Economics, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of related experience, education, and training in the finance, accounting, or tax field.
  • Significant experience applying analytical and problem-solving skills to resolve complex issues requiring mature judgment, discretion, and sound decision-making.
  • Significant experience researching, compiling, and analyzing complex financial data and interpreting financial policies and procedures while ensuring tax compliance, including the application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge of taxation and accounting theory.
  • Advanced organizational, written, and verbal communication skills and the ability to effectively collaborate and build relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Advanced experience with computer-based spreadsheets and report-generation applications such as Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience preparing and filing multi-state payroll or withholding tax returns and conducting tax research and interpretation of tax laws.

    Qualifications We Desire
  • Knowledge of Cost Accounting Standards (CAS), GAAP, and institutional financial policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of foreign national taxation requirements.
  • Experience with financial and reporting systems such as Oracle, ePay reimbursement system, Orion Reloviews and OnBase.

Pay Range

$114,900 - $140,712 Annually

This is the lowest to highest salary range in good faith we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee's position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.

This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.If you are selected, wewill initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if youmeet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter.
